WOW. what a night. i'm so glad i came out! Last night was one of the most fun nights i have had at the new Glow!! it really was. it was lacking a lot of the glow family, and that was disappointing, but those of us that came out had soooooo much fun. And got to meet a few new board members as well!

The night started out slow... main room didnt open until around 12!!! what was up with that?? that sucked, b/c that upstairs room was freezing and we hate hip hop and we were just all so anxious to get downstairs. but thanks paul for the hot chocolate... it warmed me up a bit! When the main room opened, dan was already rockin' it hard! i didnt even need to get warmed up... we jumped right into an awesome night. Another great thing was no pushy bouncers guarding the stairs. Anyone could go up to the dj booth, so we were up there a little here and there to support dan and pete, and some people who never got into the booth before, like koon and bill, got to and that was really great.

Dan... it was definitely one of my favorite sets i have heard from you ever. i really, sincerely enjoyed it. Songs i remember from your set:

City Lights
I/O Rapture (some kind of remix)
Sasha- Xpander!!!! omg!
Flashdance

The crowd started out pretty sparce, but MAN were people ever DANCING their hearts out to dan's set. cheering and yelling. what a hell of a vibe. and dan was clearly having a blast!

Not sure what time pete came on. But also an incredible set. I didnt stop dancing for even a second last night. There was no way you could not dance. I was disappointed that they cut him off about 3:50... and RIGHT in the middle of his last TRACK, i might add. what's up with that??? i dont see why FUR can only stay open late for the big djs. pete deserves to spin as long as he wants... he puts glow together! seriously, that really pissed me off. we begged for one more tune, he started to play it, and they made him stop about 30 seconds into it. that was complete bull. but oh well... i guess the night couldnt last forever.

tracks i remember:

Never (from Nyana)
Flesh
James Holden - Nothing
Jump the Next Train (a remix i havent heard with a longer intro)
Find- Ridgewalker feat. El (Andy Moor remix)

and my FAVORITE TUNE OF THE NIGHT: System F - Dance Valley Theme!!

I have to make one comment though.... even though the night was awesome and both sets were phenomenal, we were all a little disappointed that for RETROSPECT night, it didnt seem like hardly any of the requests that any of us made in the request thread were played, with the exception of a small handful, and i think we were all expecting to hear some more of the top tunes of 2004, and some old favorite classics... but disappointingly, they werent there but still.... i'm not complaining. we were just a little disappointed.

a few shoutouts:

pete & dan : thanks for an awesome night! one of my favorite this year at glow.

sky: happy 2 years!!! it was such a blast, cant wait for new years!

josie & aj: good seeing you guys, sorry you had to leave so early. sorry we didnt come by, we thought we were ok to drive home and got a little lost trying to find 395 to get to your house.

sammy: had such a blast dancing with you!

mario: vegas? florida? who cares.... we have NOW and every moment counts!

dj guatamala: good seeing you again! you're so much fun!

neil: nice meeting you!! you're an awesome dancer!

koon: great partying with you again. i could tell you were having so much fun!

roberto: even though you forgot our cd, we still love you!

antonis: glad you liked the glitter!

bill: i'm so glad you came! we missed you !!

gerald: jingle my BALLS!

ryu: nice seeing you again!!!!!!!!

limin_li: nice to FINALLY meet u!

TATGIRL: WHERE WERE U!!! i thought you were coming??

the rest of you that didnt come: shame on you!! you missed so much fun! better get your asses there on new years!

sorry if i forgot anyone. running on almost no sleep here, as usual. have a happy holiday everyone!!

I wasn't even sure that I would be @ Glow on Christmas night. As it turned out, Christmas night was much more fun than I expected!

My night started off at Penang. Went over to hang out with Nima, Jonathan and Amanda for a little bit, before hitting Glow.

I made it to Fur right before the main room opened up, so I didn't have to deal with hip-hop upstairs for too long. I caught up with the GLOW family early on...I was happy! Soon I would finally experience the wonders of a GLOW Retrospective Night! I was glad to see a nice turnout, even though not too many of the Glow family was around.

Once again...I was absolutely amazed by all the great tracks I heard from Dan Sampson and Pete Moutso! I didn't recognize the last few tracks dropped by Dan Sampson...I sure loved the tribal bangin' beats!

As for Pete Moutso...my jaw dropped when I heard some tracks that I hadn't heard in ages! There were quite a few tracks that brought back memories of when I started getting hooked to trance. Among the tracks from Pete Moutso's set that made my night...
Tomcraft - Happiness
Holden & Thompson - Nothing
DJ Albert vs. Precision - Say Yes (Katana Rmx)
Three Drives - Sunset On Ibiza
Three Drives - Carrera 2
Utah Saints - Lost Vagueness
Jan Johnson - Flesh (Tiesto Rmx)
System F - Dance Valley Theme

Even though I was tired and slightly hungover from Christmas festivities, I couldn't bring myself to leave till the end! I was having too much fun dancing or just going back through some good memories. It's a shame Pete Moutso didn't get to play the last track...not a proper way to end the night!

Shoutouts to...
Sammy and Dcougar - hands down...some of my favorite crunks! never a dull moment when you're around!
Josy - great seeing you as always! glad Christmas turned out well for you!
AJ - great chatting with you!
Amy - dahling...always great seeing you! i'll miss seeing you @ GLOW when you move to FL in April!
Janette - always great seeing you! looking forward to your set on January 1st! expect to see me...no matter what!
PvD Kid - great seeing back in DC! glad you enjoyed GLOW!
Koon - always good seeing you!
DJ Guatemala - you rock! btw...i'm always amazed with your track IDs.
Limin Li - great chatting with you!
RYU - too bad you left early!
Gerald - your antlers cracked me up!
Pete and Dan - thanks again for the bangin' sets!

And one more thing...Jonathan, Amanda, Beema, Busy Child, vtec junkie, and a few others were missed!

See you all on January 1st!

:D

I was there...I'd never been to Glow. Here's my (long) take on Glow--

I saw the late show of "Napoleon Dynamite" at the Arlington Cinema Drafthouse with my family. "Napoleon, what are you going to do today?"
"Whatever the HECK I feel like! GOSH!"
so I left later than I thought. It didn't help I tried to follow some maps.yahoo.com directions. Luckily, the Capitol is a big enough landmark I could find the area. Parked on the street 3 blocks away, walked over.

The line was slow, I waited ~15 minutes. I tried to think warm thoughts and ignore the 25 degree weather. I was a bit sketched out by the people in line with me--literal transcription "Dude, Player for Real, I thought we were going to Dream, but we're at FURRRRR. I got my weeks pay in cash, & I'm spending it."

Through the metal detector, then my gum got confiscated. I've never been to a club with a metal detector before. In San Francisco they practically do a full cavity search looking for drugs, but I usually got to keep my gum.

Mourning my Eclipse gum, I paid my $20 cover charge. Red Bull & Absolut--$12! (most expensive I've ever seen) Red Bull & No-Name Vodka--$11. The extra dollar is well worth it.

The club setup was interesting. The DJ's were high up on a ledge at the front, high enough that there was an overhanging lip. This created an open areaa, as people danced back far enough so they could angle up & see the DJ. There were warrens of private rooms/VIP lounges at the sides & back of the room.

The Male/Female ratio was about 75/25--whether that's usual, or most girls stayed home cause it was Christmas, I don't know. I'd ended up wearing a blue top & Jeans. I saw plenty of other people in Jeans too, though the overall vibe was dress-y.

The music was GREAT. I'd planned to stay about an hour, just to check the place out. But like all good intentions, this fell by the wayside as I was having too much fun dancing. The sound system was a little over-bassed. The light system was impressive. & the crowd, though not jam-packed, were digging the sets. The hiphop people stayed upstairs. I scored a free Dan Sampson CD as a bonus.

Right around when I got in--
"You are Sleeiping" PQM.
I can't really add any tracks beyond that & those already ID'd, except the next to last song which went "The day is cold--the night is long" very appropriate for a winter party. I ended up staying til I got swept out at closing time.

I ended up meeting a few other Trance Addicts right near the end of the night (hi Mario). How to tell a TA:
Up in the front, dancing & DJ watching
Will not only ID a track, will ID the remix.
Stays til the end.

Overall, I was really glad I went. Every weekend in December, I've been in a completely different place, hearing electronic music--
EuroTrash Disco in Chiapas, Mexico
Rabbit in the Moon in Austin, Texas
Markus Schulz in San Francisco, CA

I wish Austin, TX had a place like Glow. I am jealous, & I'll definitely come back when I'm in DC. Other highlight of the night--driving back on Constitution Ave through the moon-lit city past the monuments, over the Potomac.

Dan played it pretty early--I'm thinking soon after xpander. I only got downstairs around 12:50 am.

Does anyone have a tracklist for the Promo that Dan was handing out? It says "Dan Sampson Winter 2004". Track 3 on it sounds to me like it lifted Peter Hooks bass line from Blue Monday. Pete played it late (around 3 AM) & I told Mario I thought he was actually mixing in New Order.

Aha! Next to last song was "Find" Ridgewalkers.

Good music transcends everything.

Sidenote: I told my friend Em I'd gone out dancing. She, like me, grew up in DC & moved away, & isn't really intouch with the local scene.

A few weeks ago she & 6 girls were back in DC, walking around Adams Morgan, looking for a place to dance. They saw a bunch of people standing outside a dance-looking club, so they got in line too. It was $40! for guys, but free for single ladies.

When they got inside--there was music--but the club was "off". Em asked what sort of club it was, & got the answer of "Lifestyles Club", which meant a "swingers club". They were at Bar None.

So I'm glad I had TranceAddict to guide me!
