Rotarys are not bad...It's ALL about EQ levels and volume levels if there is so Isolator addons.
U can be more precise with long mixes with it....

all i can take frm this thread is that rotary's are a pain in the ass to mix with. totally un-friendly.
why do people rave abt them so much then? cant just be for sound quality is it?? |

Rotary mixers are definately not a pain in the ass to mix with. It just takes a while to get used to them, that's all.
Once you are used to a rotary mixer, they are better than most 'regular' mixers.

Well, you can use one-ear monitoring, like mentioned before.
Other than that, I guess you would just have to rely on the monitors for mixing... |

1 ear monitoring should be good enough (granted this club has good monitors, which is imperative given their mixer choice) but, if you realy need to check, do it, ghetto style.
channel 1 is live track. channel 2 is cued track.
set the mixer to send channel 1 to phones, count 4 beats and snap it to channel 2, on beat, if it didn't sound right, it's out of sync. it should sound like a massive change in the track, but it should have stayed on beat. sounds pretty dumb, i know, but it can do the trick, and i know a lot of us use it from time to time. |

It's not that bad assuming you have the 2016 XP, which I'm sure they do. This is what I tell all my 'Pioneer' friends before they mix on my Rane:
1) The EQ only affects the output/main audio. Any changes you make to the high/mid/low will not be heard in the cue. So if the track you are bringing in is a little sharp on the highs compared to track you're playing you will need to guess/estimate how much to drop the treble. I actually prefer this because if you drop the bass while you're in the mix on the track you're bringing out you can still here it in your cue to make sure the mix is in.
2) As stated, you don't have the full display for the levels per channel like you do on the Pioneer. Again, not a big deal. On the 2016XP there is a single display and it will change when you change the channel you are monitoring. Also when you flip the ‘cue/master’ switch (on the MP in the 'Phones' section) the display will change between the channel you're monitoring and the main channel. You can flip back and forth while cueing to compare the cue level to the level of the track you're playing.
3) The EQ slope it fully adjustable. To get the normal Pioneer slope (the middle choice on the 500/600) turn the 'Crossfader Contour' to 9 o'clock. Or you can do what I do and avoid using it all together.
I also want to point out that every last one of these Pioneer people have commented on how clean the sound is and how forgiving it is to phase. It's a pleasure to mix on.

| It should, but not like you are used to. You can push the cue button for each channel you want to hear, but you wont be able to adjust it like on the 600. |
