Shpongle - Dorset Perception (Lane Pelovsky's Glitch Virus Remix) New Edit in 160k

Well... this is my first time ever to post on TA's Production Forum....

I heard this song on Sasha's Involver album... and loved it completely!!!

I really enjoy the feel and the vocals on this track.

It would never be mixable in any of my sets (as there always mostly 140+ bpm)

I really wanted to put a new twist on the tune, though some may not like it that it lacks the booming bassline or the middle-eastern-sounding strings... I think this is a nice new way to present Dorset Perception

This is still a work in progress, i need to iron out a few kinks, add fx, and tweak a bit more.

Download: Shpongle - Dorset Perception (Lane Pelovsky's Glitch Virus Remix) (Edit 5.0-7.0)
**File-Info:
*-96k (Rendered at Highest Quality)
*-Mpeg2 Layer3(.mp3)

I hope you like it, better quality files will be available in the future as i get close to finishing this track.

Let me know your thoughts

**update**
Ive done a bit more work on the track, added a new bassline, and made it more fluid...

Edit 7.0 is up with 160k quality!

Intro's kinda weird. O_o

I'm okay with a little repetition, but there's just a little too much of it in the intro.

When are we gonna get back to the beat? The breakdown goes on forever.

I must say, I'm not much a fan of the tech house style you're employing. It would have been cool if you could have at least included the awesome bassline from the original.
dj_lane
i dont have a bassline becuase i couldnt match the original
but i did fix out the annoying breakdown
dj_lane
ive done some more work on the tune, i hope more of you check it out!

I am a HUGE shpongle fan, so I jumped at the chance to check this version out. Dorset Perception actually being one of my favs :p

OK, listening:

hmmm interesting! wow, this is truely a bizaar version.

0:20 I love the bass line.

0:40 that intial cymbol is very overpowering.

0:50 yup teh cymbol works better with another HH.

Im not sure about the vocals being chopped up like that.

1:19 --> 1:45 that sample is too repetative.

1:50 I love that sample.

2:30 kewl, nice mixing.

4:40 interesting bits & peices :p

You are driving this tune with the vocal samples. Have you thought about sampling some of the guitar licks of Dorset Perception & adding them to the tune. (just an idea)

I love the bass line of this tune. The bassline truely kicks ass! The samples get a little annoying in parts of the song. I think another rythme needs to be added & reduce the amount to samples in the song.

Thanks for sharing dj_lane :p

Decided to check out what you might have done to a Shpongle track.

Just some things I didn't like of the song: The kick would sound really bad coming in to a transition. It's just a double beat. There's not much of the original in this song either. I think there should be maybe more of the melody, such as the guitar riff or more clear of vocals. It's just too repetitive for my liking. Good try.

nice techno... sounds a bit dry... try using some Adam Beyer tracks as references and try some of the effects he's using... like try wetting your sounds in a small room reverb.. or adding a slight delay echo on some of your sounds.

Also wanna make your techno beat has phat bass... take any drumloop low pass filter it really low like 100hz or lower... till all you feel is the bass... then boost some resonance so you feel more bass... it gives you that deep techno percussion bass. This trick is common in european techno.

Thanks So much for the feedback, unfortunatly i cant get a good enough cut of the guitar, so i couldnt add it, but thanks for the suggestion, i need to work on some more actions and samples going on so it is more enjoyable.

Although techno is mostly repitition, there should be a change in sounds often for it to be enjoyable

Actually, the beat isnt a double beat, its an illusion, it has a bassless crunch before the kick, it mixes quite well with other techno :)

I need to work on it so it has the same sound, but has a variety, that is my biggest fault is that i dont change this around too much.

As for the guitar riff, its a bit hard to sample that as it includes a load of bass from sasha's edit

Funny you should say that ;) i sampled a few sounds from Adam Beyer's remix of Ben Sims - Manipulated the crunch sound before the beat is an example

Thanks for the tips on that about techno, i need to do that, i notice that technique` in techno, just didnt know what it was

Overall, thanks so much for the feedback, more edits are on the way!

I'm sorry, but there is hardly any coherent rythym to that. Not only that, but it houses almost no musical variation whatsoever. Have you ever listened to the original? It is quite dandy. Sasha's remix is crap, as well. Try again....

Big fan of Shpongle here, so this should be interesting.
Iīm not going to complain about repetitiveness, because itīs a techno remix. The break does feel a bit long though.

I donīt really listen to techno, so i donīt know what to say, except that i would have liked some more content from the original version.
