THEN:
I went and saw such and such DJ and he was amazing. At 2:30 he played some crazy ass track that made me go ape. The crowd went nuts. The whole night was track after track of crazy new stuff. Most of the stuff such and such was playing was on acetate. In fact most of his set was acetate and white labels! WOW! People were dancing like crazy and the place was rammed. What a great night.
NOW:
DJ such and such was great. He played so many great songs and i was able to ID 80% of them. I didnt like some of the stuff that he played that wasnt in the exact genre that i think he should be classified as but after he got over that and started playing all the songs that i have downloaded on my hard disk at home it was amazing. I hope he comes back again next year and plays the same stuff again! And whats with the overcrowding? Someone call the fire marshall, clubs should only be allowed to have 1 person per arm flailing circumferance. |

i dont know of any djs playing acetates anymore hehe...do people still press tracks to acetate? lol...
the djs with the newest most upfront beats are the ones dropping sets all from cd......you go see diggers / deep dish / lawler / desyn / sander / *insert other forward thinking djs name* and practically the whole set is off cd...
how times have changed... |

yeah thats true but the point of that part was to illustrate how playing new tracks that were not even released yet was cool. Now its all about how many tracks people can ID for a lot of people. |

i've never changed the way i right a review, its always solely based on my expereince that night whether it be good or bad.
anyways, i've always enjoyed hearing songs i know. why not? is the whole point to see who can be the most 'in' at the time? why do some of you have to be so hard core and have to hack armin van buuren's computer so you can have the song b4 its even been mastered yet??? just in chill out and enjoy the music, its not like its britney spears land where all of north america's teenie boppers know it. a song a TA recognizes is prolly recognized by at most 30% of ppl at the club(given its not a club smash hit by the guest dj).
also, i like hearing fresh new tunes when i go out to party, no one wants to hear a repetive set over and over, but seriously, when it comes to trance or edm, how often does that ever happen? its not like a top 40 club where you expect to hear the same over and over. just listen. enjoy. and be happy. don't be a tight ass who has to call every song he recognizes, outdated. |

It happens QUITE a bit. I don't go there knitpicking but if it's similar that I've heard 10x before then meh. |

example? i'm not talking about repetitive music that all sounds the same. i'm talking about distinguishable songs that are played like every time at a club.
i'll admit there are a few that got on my nerves...one being 'superchumbo - the beat is (peacedivision remix)' , that song was like the darude - sandstorm of the prog house world.
other ones are beastie boys - fight for your right (junkie xl remix) and deep dish - flashdance. but even though they've been hardcore overplayed i still like them.
maybe i'll admit there are numerous songs that are overplayed, but with trance thats never the case. the last time i got to get a night of non-stop quality trance was scott bond, i can't wait for him to come back. |
