IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN TIME!!!!!!!
Alright, since I've been ridiculed by fellow TA's for not posting often enough:D :D I figured this would be a pretty interesting topic to start a new thread about. The 47th annual grammy awards is being shown on CBS Feb. 13th (my b-day) at 8 p.m. I'm so extatic that they have FINALLY!!! got their heads out of their asses and decided to add and Electronic dance album award. As expected though the majority of the show is going to be overtaken by the Rap, Hip Hop, R&B, and Pop sections BBBBLLLLLAAAAHHH!!! which outweigh EDM about 30 to 1. Nonetheless here is the list of nominees.
Best Electronic/Dance Album
(For vocal or instrumental albums. Albums only.)
Kish Kash
Basement Jaxx
[XL Recordings/Astralwerks]
Legion Of Boom
The Crystal Method
[V2 Records]
Creamfields
Paul Oakenfold
[Thrive Records]
Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned
The Prodigy
[XL/Mute/Maverick]
Reflections
Paul Van Dyk
[Mute Records] :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:
Now, I don't think I even need to say that PvD has this HANDS DOWN!!!, but my question is... What other albums do you think deserve nomination in this category, and what other categories do you think they should come up with for the EDM genre in years to come?
Happy posting,
Brandon:tongue2 :tongue2 :tongue2 |

ugh, I do love pvd, but reflections was a really ty album(sorry!) aside from the 3 tracks on it that were good for lets see... 10 minutes before they became played out,I think Creamfields will definitely have this one... but who knows, we'll see. Anyway, its awesome they're even including electronic music for an award.. even if it is the "mainstream" edm artists..
I say *Sander K-Everybody Too* and Sasha-Involver would be other GREAT nominations for album of the year..
ps thanks brandon for the info ;) |

The Grammy awards mean nothing... they're all about musical politics.... two of those albums don't even belong anywhere near an award..... My bet is on Oakenfold because of his status in the industry...how fitting to give the first EDM Grammy to the biggest name in EDM history.....(and yes I'm a very big Oakey fan)
We all have our favorites for the year and I think that means more to the true artist than a statue.... :happy2: |

Agreed, but this at least puts our culture out there (even if it is just the mainstream artists)to show this country that we're not going anywhere. Maybe some of these douche bags that think it has no place in America might take it a little more seriously as an art form instead of just a drug culture. I mean of course we had Tiesto do the olympics, and PvD did the Rock the Vote tour, plus the Motorolla commercial, and now he's got Time of our Lives on HBO/Max, which has been running on there for like the past 30 weeks. They might as well just accept the fact that EDM is on the rise and here to stay!!
Thx for the responses,
Brandon
P.S. Rach, there is also a category for best remixed song, and Sasha's "Watching cars go by" from Involver remixed by Felix da Housecat is also a nominee;) ;) |

ewl I am not liking this...can we hear it LOUD...........
EDM is taking a trip down
MAINSTREAM lane.
yes it's great Paul is there buuut it's the grammies and EDM and they do not mix...grammies are pop rock blah and blah. Uk awards is where it belongs...I completely despise when they publicize EDM like a hooker on Biscayne BLVD.
Keep it where it is...the last thing we need are all these stupid people just NOW jumping on the NOOB train to EDM.
ahhhh. this is by far the most frustrating topic for me.
Besides if they are going to nominate at least do it correctly because Prodigy and whoever else it was on there is not entirely considered Electronic...with the exception of Paul and Oakie.
Whatever. I really don't like it.
 |

I understand the frustration that you all might have with it, but I myself was one of those "stupid people" that jumped the NOOB train just 4 years ago, which I'm sure is much later than the majority of you. My bro is actually the one who introduced me to it in 98', but even then I wanted no part of it. I was all into heavy rock, and . Then in 2000 it was just like an all of a sudden thing (an awakening if you will). I heard Adagio for Strings (Ferry Corsten's mix) and that's pretty much all it took to convince me to give it a chance, and my appreciation for the music just skyrocketed from there. I have learned much more than I ever thought I was capable of, and if I had never taken that leap on the NOOB train, then I would be completely lost right now. I would have lived the rest of my life with a void that could've never been filled. All I'm saying is that some of those "stupid people" that might not have given it a chance in the past, have just as much of a right to jump the NOOB train as I did! More people that get turned on to EDM = Less people that conform to all the pop bull.
Together we will conquer,

you're no noob...you came when it was good and real. I did not mean to offend you and I was not calling you a noob personally. I feel that the vast majority of the people who JUST began the whole EDM thing usually get into it for the WRONG reasons. Electronic music should be a huge appreciation and that's how I feel about it. I love it because nothing else comes close or even compares. I guess you can say it changed my life and the way I am as well, in that, we have something in common. I just dislike when people like it for the trendyness and the latest "fad" which has been known to happen in almost all cases. I would like it to remain a bit underground, not hidden don't get me wrong but underground. Since the core years of Electronic music it has changed...it's not quite what it used to be as far as parties and the music expression...I just fear the more popular it becomes the more tainted it will become. I just don't want one day to pick up Armin's CD and it be like picking up a Justin Timberlake CD.
I don't know if you understand where I am coming from...but that is the best way for me to explain it.

I understand completely how you feel! No offense taken at all. :D :D I just wanted to explain why I have more of a positive feeling about it than a negative one. EDM is not meant to be taken as a fad or a trend. Hell, we all know the difference between mainstream bull, and the tracks that really have meaning. And that is why I believe that if Armin's cd ends up sounding like JT, not one person who actually has an idea of what EDM is all about would be adding it to their list of "must have's", and we wouldn't be all lined up to see his shows... We would be discovering the next prophet(s) of our culture, and Armin would be pushed to the wayside just like many others. There are endless possibilities with this style of music, and that's what makes it so intriguing imo. The infinite amount feelings and atmospheres that you can create are phenomenal. The more people that can understand that, the better. Sorry if I seemed like I was taking offense, I just liked the sound of "Jump the Noob Train":haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:
P.S. I don't mean for it to sound like I'm preaching. That's really not the type of person that I am. I guess I just have a dream about the potential that EDM holds.:happy2: :happy2: :happy2: |
