well i am going to have to see how my midterms workout this semester.
if i do go, it's going to have to be a last minute decision kind of thing.

I am thinking very hard about going.

Pros: Awesome music. Never been to Miami. Beaches. Fun. Can't get any shows like it in Austin.

Cons: Expensive. None of my friends are as into electronic as me--will they want to go out 4 nights in a row all night?

Mitigating factors:
I have an unused Continental flight credit from ending a trip in Tuxtla, Mexico instead of Acapulco, Mexico (a difference of oh...900 miles...like ending up in Denver instead of Houston). I'll see if I can switch it over.

I'm leaning towards going now, when I'm still young & don't have family responsibilities.

I'm going! It's my 4th or 5th time to South Beach, but my first time for Conference/Ultra. Got my hotel, getting flight this week. Planning to see Steve Lawler at State 3/23 and going all nite till the next morning for Eric Morillo on the terrace at Space :eyespop: :tongue3 :eyes:  What a way to start a vacation off!!!:D Would love to meet some TX TAs there that week!:tongue2

To anyone who hasn't gone, I say make the extra effort to go. It's still early to make preparations. I went two years ago to Ultra for the first time (second time to Miami/South Beach). I had to stretch my budget, but I have no regrets. One of the best trips ever! Ultra was worth more than the price of admission. The clubbing in Miami/South Beach is unbelievable. While I was there, I met people from Toronto, Montreal, New Jersey, and LA. Watching E! Wild On South Beach is not the same as experiencing it for yourself :)

I will say that while I was there, the local news reported the city of Miami was trying to shut down the Ultra Music Festival. I'm glad they have not succeeded, but the excuse "maybe next year" may come back to haunt you.

I am going this year with Mxmind the other half of Dual Progress. Hit me up if you don't have my cellphone number PM me.

I just found out that I have March 25th off from work. That pretty much clinches it for me.

My rough plan so far, cribbed from a NYTA:

[03/23] | Steve Lawler @ WMC: Lights Out Miami
[03/25] | Wet Grooves Pool Party [Day 2] (Glaude, Schulz & Humpty) @ Shelborne Beach Resort
[03/26] | Ultra Music Festival (Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, Nu-NRG, Edgar V, Murk, Sander Kleinenberg)

how much is everyone looking to spend for such a trip.

I don't want to brake the piggy bank:(

My rough idea for flying in Wed night, flying out early Sunday morning:

$360 airfare to Miami (but I have a flight credit, so only the $100 change fee)==$100

4 nights hotel (W, Th, FR, SA) at $80/night (less if I find more people to share a room, OR am totally insane & party all night Saturday & fly back w/o sleeping in a hotel)==$160(?)

$20/$60 per day per shows, X4 = $150

$75 per day for food, drinks, taxis, etc == $300

-----------------------------
$510
+100 for whatever else
+100 for me underestimating everything
-----
$710 (ouch!)

But it should be worth it...
