Alright, so I think I'm recovered enough from a CRAZY week-end of insanity that I'm ready to post a review, although I don't know where to start :D
I had tons of friends come over for this weekend from all over the States and Canada, and man did we let loose. We started off our NYE night at around 6:30PM at my friend's house, who of course regretted having us all over despite the fact that she missed us all :p We ate, drank, got a little buzzed, were supposed to meet up with the TAs from Atlanta and New York at around 9:00 PM at McLean's Bar (this after having changed the meet-up place last minute from Cage aux Sports), but of course we ended up arriving almost an hour late cause we're a bunch of non-punctual Arabs and other lazy ethnicities...Finally got there around 10:00PM, and met up with Gavin, Mario, Bree, Patrick and one more guy who's name I can't remember :p...by the way, great meeting you guys in Montreal, it was fun partying with you :D
Finally got to the Bell Center, got our tickets, and waited for some more friends who forgot their credit cards at home :o It's always a bit of a disaster when you're trying to organize something big and there's over 20 people causing havoc with your plans (you know who you are you bastards :p)
Anyway, we were in by 11:00PM just in time to catch Eddy Jasmin's last hour. First time I ever heard Eddy spin, and all I have to say is WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW...I had NO CLUE how much I'd enjoy his music...exactly the way I like my house...
Midnight came and everyone on the dance floor was going crazy and getting hyped...the countdown, I must say, SUCKED ASS...I checked out Celebration in 2001, and there is NO COMPARISON between that one and this one...very weak in my opinion...one of the very few bad points about the night...
Sneak came on at midnight and played a so-so set...too up and down for me, too weak at times, and not hard enough...so I decided to save my energy for later, and was VERY pleasantly surprised with Simon Perreault's spinning...again, great set, deep and dark proggy house, full blast...will definitely check him out again...
AND THEN DJ DAN COMES ON...enough said...I think everyone agrees that he MUST come back to Montreal, and the sooner the better...
At this point, it's around 6:00 PM, and I've been dancing like crazy for 7 hours straight with almost no breaks whatsoever...it's hard on the legs, especially the calfs :p Sooooo, I start feeling major cramps coming on, and I decide to take a break and stretch out my legs before Sander's set...I take a walk to 117 and go out and sit on the floor, and my entire body starts spazzing...I'm cramping all over and it's not a lot of fun...of course, my friends see me and start laughing till they realize I'm actually in pain...they strecth me out for an hour and I spend the next three hours on the floor, massaging my legs with Tiger Balm and all that other crap...that smell, so distinctive :p...at this point, it's 9:30AM, and I've missed all of Sander's set...all of it :( and I wasn't even in the stands cause I was too much in pain to even move...
Finally, at around 10:00AM, after 4 hours of rest, massaging, fluid imbibing and cramp fighting, I stand up and walk back onto the dance floor to catch the last 2 hours of Celebration...at this point, Max is playing some wicked tunes and I start dancing like crazy again near 117 with my crew...from 10:00 AM to about 11:15 AM, best 75 minutes I've ever spent on the dance floor...so much room to move, so many people enjoying the last minutes of heaven, so much positive vibe in the arena...absolutely great...I'm carrying my water bottle and constantly watering my surrounding area so I can shuffle, because the dance floor is FILTHY...My one major gripe (the countdown was a minor one) was the dancefloor...it is beyong me how anyone expects people to dance 15 hours straight on a concrete dancefloor...WHERE WERE THE THICK SHEETS OF PLASTIC that they used at CREAM to a) keep the floor from turning into a mudpool and more importantly b) to provide some sort of shock absorber on the knees...they had some on the elevated sections of the dancefloor (which was a great idea), but those were completely packed and way too small...so to whoever is in charge of organizing the next massive at the Bell Center, please don't forget the PLASTIC!!!
At any rate, Max at around 11:15AM suddenly decides to go soft and turns the event into a trance fest for whatever reason...Max, this is a HOUSE party. People don't want to hear soft trance at this type of event...and I don't care if you're closing and feel like it would be a good idea if you went all fluffy on them for the last 45 minutes. It's not a good idea...people left in droves around that period of time, and there was a reason for that...compare this to Deep Dish at Cream, who were closing then, and you'll understand where I'm coming from...
Anyway, we finally leave after they turn on the lights, but I could have continued for another 12 hours :D I get back home with my friends and see my parents, who ask me all kinds of not so subtile questions :p Of course, I answer them ever so subtily, but I'm still bopping my head to the music that won't leave my cranium...We decide to go to another friend's house to "relax", and end up listening to some more great house...finally sleep a bit and wake up at around 10:00PM, and I want to catch Eddy and Simon P. at Aria cause I loved their sets...problem is, my calfs aren't cooperating, and I look like an invalid while I'm walking...so I decide to save my energy for next weekend at Aria, where I'm sure we're in for a good surprise ;)
Finally, it was again great meeting all the TAs from Atlanta and New York...seems like you guys enjoyed yourselves in our city ;) Too bad though we didn't get to see anyone else from this board, although I'm sure we'll bump into each other sometime in the future... |

and that.. :D |
I fkn third that.
What is up with the 7'3 Conan the Barbarian styled gay guys who reeked of Tigerbalm? It's awesome to see the whole city come out to party but it's scary when they're 2 inches from the back of your head.
Speaking of Tigerbalm, could someone please explain to me why the hell I always smell it at raves? Does it have something to do with E?
And yeah, BEB is so fkn far. After NYE my girlfriend finally gave in and admitted that she loved techno. Which means I can hang out at Aria a lot more.
Speaking of Aria, maybe it was just by chance but last time I went to Aria I found the crowd to be really cold there. It was the after party for Tiesto and me and some friends got some really dirty looks. I have a feeling it was because we look young (18), I mean I loved the place and everything it just seemed kind of unfriendly. :X
I'm sure if you guys were there it'd be different. Oh by the way, Louis were you wearing a hat? Not a baseball cap but a like tuque styled hat?
EDIT:
Once again, Eddy Jasmin played a fkn awesome set. I still can't find anything of his online. :( |

hahahaahhahahahaa...ayre fikkkkkk :p candy shmandy...I swear I was in pain and my legs were completely cramped up...my friends pass by and see me spazzing and proceed to stretch me out and give me the Tiger Balm...despite my pain, I still considered not using it because of the ensuing consequences, but it, at least it worked :p |

Ahh yeah, I remember the strip search.
And wtf was up with people sneaking camera's in. After Tiesto I was sure I wouldn't have a problem getting a camera in but then the fkn bouncer told me to put it in my coat. Then 20 mins later I see like 3 people taking pictures. :(
/end rant. |
