Hi! Well, my post has nothing to do with music, hope you won't mind me posting here!
I'm planning a trip to Norway from Feb 07 to Feb 09 (only about 50 hours, that's the part that sucks...) and would like to make the most out of my time there.
I will arrive in Oslo. I'm very much into nature and beautiful landscapes and I know that Norway is all about that!
I was wondering if you had any recommendations. I'm browsing through a lot of websites right now but it's hard to make a choice, since I won't stay there for long unfortunately.
So far, I was thinking about taking the train from Oslo to Bergen because it looks like the most awesome train journey out there. The city of Bergen itself must be nice to visit, but what about its surrounding landscapes? I think there is a nice fjord to see (Hardanger Fjord), but I don't how accessible that is (by bus? how long does it take?)
Only drawback is that the train ride is 15 hours long roundtrip.
I was also thinking about Southern Norway. From what I read, it looks absolutely stunning and I think I've also read that landscapes can be very different in the area.
Good thing when you don't have too much time and want to see as much places as possible ;)
I imagine that you don't get much sunlight in early february, so this too is a limitation, can't do sightseeing at night (except in cities).
Anyway, I would gladly appreciate your comments, ideas and advice, and thank you very much for your help already! |

| I think the traintrip to Bergen should be nice, but as you said, its a very long time when you only have 50 hours. You also need some sleep! From Oslo to Kristiansand (Southern Norway), there's mostly big acres and nothing special to see. You could try to search for some sightseeing spots in Telemark (Not too far from Oslo, about 2 hours with train). Many things worth seeing there ;) And if you're experienced with crosscountry skiing, you could go to Norefjell or Kongsberg and take a tour in the mountains.. Anything other than nature you are interested in seeing? |

Thanks very much for the reply Moore!
Well I spent lots of time going over my options etc, and for now I think I may be able to extend my stay by 6 hours (need to change my Ryanair booking for that, costs a bit extra but it should be worth it), which means I'll be leaving on Wednesday night around 11pm instead of 5pm.
If I take the train ride only once, and during the day because at night it's not interesting at all, and the plane back (2 times more expensive but 6 times faster!), I should be able to spend the end of Tuesday in Bergen and its surroundings and most of Wednesday. Enough time to go around the fjord and the mountains I think!
I'll arrive in Oslo on Monday around noon, which means I'll be able to spend all of the afternoon and evening there and go around the city :)
I'm not only interested in nature and landscapes but also in cities, architecture and art museums, so I guess I could just do that in Oslo!
As for sleeping...haha...well, that's some "hardcore" trip where I won't get much sleep! But seriously, I know which youth hostel I'll stay at in Oslo the first night, now I need to find some place to stay in Bergen the following night.
My trip won't actually be over as I'm flying back to London on Wednesday night, also need to find a place to stay for the night :p
I will finally head back to France on Thursday night by train ;)
(And before that, I will go to a great trance night in London with Above & Beyond and Nu-NRG + lots of others the friday before, followed by 2 days in Scotland...told you...extreme trip! ;) )
Oh and thanks for the advice regarding Telemark and the other mountains towns...sounds nice! Haven't skiied for many many years, so I don't know...but we'll see! |

| If you have time you should go to Lillehammer and check out all the Olympic buildings and ski jumps, etc. Downtown Lillehammer is really cozy and has a variety of shops that you can check out. |
