when you installed the drive...did you remember to switch the thingy to slave?
Orbax
sometimes they need to be formatted before you can do anythign to them. Also if its a new one it may need a faster IDE cable or even be attached to a IDE expansion card through your mobo.

not really .. some hard drives have the pin setup as a default setting (the "fif" notch), which automatically becomes downgraded to a slave .. you would have to move the pin when the drive is bumped to primary...

right click on My Computer, goto manage, goto disk managment, it should be in there, format it from there.

the best idea there .. .. i coulda said click Run>>type "MMC">>Add snap-in>>add>>Disk Management .. but that's the 1337 way of doing it .. :haha:

yeah i had a similar problem a few weeks back when i got a drive off ebay.

installed it, sorted the jumpers out, got it as a secondary master etc blah blah blah

showed up in bios blah blah blah

got into windows, doesnt show up in explorer, so i thought 'hm...need to fix this'

neglected to say im on a '98 machine, but i like 98 so :)

had to get windows to recognise the hd, so i buggered off into DOS and ran FDISK, created a new partition on the drive, yeah that was all fine and dandy

formatted this new partition and that took forever, so i pissed off to have a shower (i got back from work late)

come back, screen has this drive info crap on it all sorted

booted back into windows, all there and ready to be filled up

the end.

PFFT, we do that regularly. Whenever something isnt working right, we just ing format the bitch. In fact, whenever something goes wrong with my box I'll try a few obvious things, and if that doesn't work then I'll bust out the format. No reason to waste time ing with it, once your windows is ed it's very hard to un- it.

I never do though. My is kept straight.

formatting frequently is one of the worst things you can do to a hard disk, it wears it down hard and fast. i format mine once a year at most, unless it's an emergency

lol, Ive had the do the old, ' it, Im just formatting the bitch' before.

Sometimes, reintalling all your , resetting it back up, and moving massive amounts of files is less stringent than having to fix windows.
