Ableton Live - starting songs

Hey,
I've been learning how to use Ableton live for DJing and im getting the hang of the basics but im not sure how to cue tracks at the right time so that the incoming track phrase matches the song currently playing.

The problem is when i hit the play button on a song, it takes a second or two for it to start playing (probably because Live is doing the beat matching). This makes it impossible to phrase match songs. As a result the phrases are always out by a few beats.

Does anyone know a way to be able to cue songs so that they start exacly when you want them to start?

Thanks in advance

use the tutorials to help you, there are quite a few built in

ive already been through the manual and the tutorials (which tought me a lot of stuff) but this one problem remains. The manual has a section on using Live for live djing but it didnt say anything about my problem (or at least I didnt see anything).

So thats why i figured i'd ask here. I assume someone here has sucessfully used Live to do DJing and is able to tell me how they do it.

What are the specs on your comp?

Computer ~> Ableton ~> Wave files etc etc = CPU INTENSIVE.

I'm amazed you don't see the failing link.

If it takes a second or so to load it's only to be expected due to the high demands of such an application.

You could possibly do some buffer adjustments ( not sure if you can do that with Ableton ) or get a faster cpu/ram/hd.

I can't say this for a fact but it really looks like this is a hardware power ( or lack of ) issue.

how to phrase match two tracks ;)
i know exactly what you are talking about. i've used ableton and had the same problem. i haven't used it too much so i can't give you a better anser than to learn your computer and find the exact right early timeing and hit the play butting and teh right out of phase time that will put the latency start in phase with teh songplaying

I've got a 2.4GHz, 512 RAM, XP SP2
I've clicked the RAM button so that the song is loaded into the ram, that doesnt seem to help. The CPU sits at about 40% when im playing two songs and my hard disk is a 7200rpm with a 8Meg cache. So i dont think hardware is the issue

Mwd said he'll send me a demo live file so i'll see how that goes...
