well... something like a japanese flute would be quite hard to synthesize if impossible...

even if you had a sample, it would be quite hard to make a realistic sound of it.

Instruments like the flute and violin have many different timbres, tone, and accents and there are just about a million ways you can play the same note.

However, the only thing i can think of that you can check out is absynth (VST)... It has a decent flute patch and has a very powerful envelope editor and if you are good enough, you might create something that sounds decent enough to pass as a flute.

sorry couldn't be much help

you could use emm knagalis, but thats a vst...

I was wondering this myself a while back (i know exactly the sound you mean). I don't think it's an easy thing to do because of the harmonics of that flute... you'd need a sample for every note of a few octaves to get it to sound real enough... but i dunno where you'd get that. (if you find lemme know)

Try making a subtractor flute sound (lots of resonance, LOW volume), and EQ it until you get a normal flute sound, then you can play around with LOTS of unisons and LOTS of (very minor) distortions (not the SCREAM 4, the little distorter), and basically "hollow" out the sound. Then add maybe a malstrom with the breathvoices voice and get that mixed well with the subtractor. Then combine with some white noise until you should have a decent hollow flute... but decent. I do hear that flute in some electronic music so I'm sure there's some VST (that instrument one? I forget the name... it's in that thread on the best vsts of 2005 :)) with a nice jap flute in it... so just keep your eyes open.

probly absynth would be your best bet to be completely honest.... you might try hyperquatet(sp) i know it has quite a few instruments that are hard to find decent on vstis...

me too, but for that you need an eastern sounding flute.

figures something I was thinking of doing would be next to impossible in reason ;) . thanks for the help though!

if you want ill give you a flute soundfont that could probly be easily redone to make into a chink flute

i would have thought using the right scale/key would help in producing something of this type too. there are certain scales that are used in this type of music.

you mean pentatonic or what ?
