Armin's Megamix 2004 over-over-over-compressed?

| So i listened this 8 times now, but its kinda strange. The quality seems fair, but there's something wrong with the mastering... I always like the settings Armin uses for his regular ASOT shows, but for the megamix, well... it sucks... Its sooo blurry and the kicks are almost gone.. Really a shame, because its so good material. Anyhow why did they overcompress it? To cover up 'mixtakes' (mix mistakes/bad mixing) or something? Whats the deal? |

| Maybe it has to do with the fact that this was recorded in advance, and not broadcast live. |

| It was most likely all mixed on a computer, that's prolly why. I think it's impossible for ANY DJ to mix 80 tracks perfectly in 2 hours time. That's probably the reason for the sound.;) |

| yes normally he just uses total recorder and goes straight to mp3, thats it. but this one used a comp to get em all in. |

Interesting question Dickie :toothless
This maybe be better of in another forum, but how does Armin get that different kind of sound out of his live mixes? They always seem to have more treble in them which is almost stronger than the bass sometimes. Is it as simple as adjusting a knob or is there more to it than that? |

| simple. he just played it all in winamp- and let the crossfader do the work. |

Wrong. Anyone with experience could do it. Some people can pull off rough blends (like turntablists do) within 10 secs. But real mixing can be pulled off in 30 seconds (to get to the point where you wont need to bend during the mix) Give or take 10 seconds.
I sure as hell am not there yet though. |

Point is you would hear at least SOME slight error in it; you don't in this case. Having seemless mixing of one breakdown over another one with no beats to go by, when you've only had 20 seconds to mix in the track is pretty much impossible without a slight bit of error.
Not to mention, with the exception of his horrid, out-of-key layering of 'Whiteroom' with 'No One On Earth', pretty much every single mix was perfectly in key. |

Well, I'm confident there are a fair number of djs that could do one that would sound as good as armins megamix on regular TTs. They might do a bit of planning, and practice ahead of time. They would probably have the keys, and BPMs written down on the records too. |
