What should we play upstairs at Fez Batik on Wednesdays? (pg. 2)

i would say chillout breaks

I second that very strongly. The one thing we are in dire need of in the city is a quality space to hear some great chill out House/Breaks/Prog in the atmosphere and classy feel of the ones in Europe and the UK. Stuff like Theivery Corp, Blue States, Morcheeba, Fretwell, Derek Howell, Way Out West, Koop, plus the much of the sounds covered under the Global Underground brand.

Frankly, there is such an abundance of phenomonal music in this vien that never gets played at the big clubs because it is suited for a sleek, classy, intimate environment and doesn't have the high energy needed for those venues.

I know many people who have been looking for just such a venue.

PM me if you like the idea and want to discuss it further.

chillout breaks, and chilled trance (ie. not driving trance)

have a nice chilled out room, small rooms for heavy duty trance/techno don't work.
Scot @ SJIRadio
As sad as it is, I really don't know what falls into the category of breaks. Its probably something I like and just don't know it :nervous:

Anyone want to give me some names specific tracks to check out?

sorry, don't have any off the top of my head...if you go this route though, get a dj who has a good collection of clean cut tunes a nice mature mood/atmosphere. please don't turn this room into a mini-rave. i hate the stupid synth sound that you here on every dnb track (you all know the sound i mean). and sometimes appears in breaks, but theres a lot of good breaks stuff...i know this doesn't help since you're not familiar with the genre. just do some research.

Way Out West - Apollo (For the deep funky chilled breaks sound)

Well Manzone and Strong aren't really known for creating that atmosphere (other than at Film & Zone). They are more so there to create the smooth and mellow feeling you get at the Drink on mild night. I really don't want to create anything to 'hard' for a Wednesday. That is the main reason I choose a venue like Fez Batik. It has a nice dance floor, and ample lounging room for those who just want to chill out and drink :toocool:

PS: Did I mention Martinis are $3.50 :D

Right now we keep downstairs very chillout and mellow, until 12:30ish when the place is packed and we pickup the pace :)

I might go the route of changing the rotation each week upstairs for 2 months or so and then stick with whatever people like. I am *thinking* about putting another big DJ upstairs (Addy, Deko-ze, etc), but I don't know yet. We would probably charge $3.50 cover after midnight for guys or something if we did that. Not sure. If the place was always full, there would be no cover, but who knows. Keep the input coming. I think it'll be 2-3 weeks before we open upstairs, so there is lots of time to plan :D

House. Fun funky house mixed with a little tribal, a little acid etc etc.

Just playing tribal is boring. Trance?? Fez Batik?? Not the type of atmosphere for trance. Breaks should also be incorperated but a good house dj will also include some breaks from time to time.

Awesome, keep the input coming guys :) We will probably take the top 4 popular genres and try a rotation of them for four weeks and see what gets a better response. Overall we want to create a really mellow vibe with a touch of spice if you know what I mean. I agree, trance wouldn't fit in with the Fez Batik style.

Hearing DJ's Deko-Ze or Addy would be sick at any time and at any place:D :gsmile:

I also agree that trance wouldn't be a good fit at FEZ BATIK and I can't really picture trance being played there:eek: :happy2:

Wednesdays at FEZ BATIK are fun times though;)It's good to see something going on Wednesday nights besides FLUID or MENAGE:D
