Hey guys, Nullistic here. You might have heard of my name through one of Gerry Cueto's remixes of my music (Don't Let Go) on this site. I've got a new remix of an old classic, De Vargas - The Train. It's got powerful sound, crisp highs, new melodies, and takes you for a sweet uplifting journey. I hope everyone enjoys this track, and I'd love to hear some feedback on it.

Well...
I don't really know what to say. It's not really my style so I can't really tell you anything other than it's a technically solid production. The sequencing of your instruments is spot on - especially regarding the flanged hats and the rapid-fire drums. The percussion is great and meshes well with the rest of the song. There are just the right amounts of effects and fades, and it sounds really tight.
However it sounds like this song needs an anthem-like hook. Maybe a huge break with a smashing synth solo or something. Otherwise it's just a droning boomboom. Your talent does not deserve to be denied here; I feel the energy from the song but there's nothing that makes me go "whoa.." and remember it.
I like the modernization of old songs. This has a nice mix of old- and new-school trancey sounds but it carries with it a pop sound. If you're gonna be producing for a trancey audience, then you gotta go underground and take some risks with your sounds and breaks. Otherwise, sell out and start producing pop dance songs. You're good either way. Everyone needs to hear some new dance stuff all the time. Why else would we all go to the clubs?
Don't waste your spectacular talent on boomboom that everyone's heard before. |

Hey, thanks for the comment, much appreciated :). Im glad you loved the overall sound of the track.
Well, when it comes to remixes, I tend to produce with the more clubbish sound, since if it were to get released, i'd want it to appeal to the club scene. But, you mentioned that it needs an anthem-like hook? That's what the main melody is, an anthem hook, it's the original melody to The Train, which I thought, was very anthemish. But it may sound and appeal different to others.
Yeah I love to give old school classic trance tracks a nice modern boost. And you may be right, I produced this track so it would appeal to the club scene, but most of my orignal tracks tend to be more unique, original, with lots of variation :).
Thanks a lot for the comment; I'd love to hear what others think.
Oh, and if anyone has a nice temp host where I could put this file for faster downloading, let me know =)

| Production wise this is great, can't fault much. You've got the skill. I dont like the choice of track just because its pretty corny. I want to hear some darker, trancier tracks from you though. |

boomboom? funny word. What does that mean? :P are you refering to that vengaboys song? lol
This isn't anthem trance.... so it doesn't need a big anthem hook or anything. Trust me! You do not want to be at a club that's playing anthems ALL THE TIME! It's boring... it's nice to mix it up a little... and this could be the track between those anthems to spice up the set a bit.
Yeah, I agree on all the sounds being used up, but I haven't heard it used in the way Nullistic does ever in trance before. He has taken the pop sound and made it something unique. I like that.
De Vargas - The Train what can I say this is truly an ibiza trance classic. This remix kinda kicks it up a notch into epic trance somewhat. One thing I miss are the typical Nullistic pianos and of course the choir synth and the arps from the original.
This track doesn't sound like a floor stomper (nor do I find anything hard hitting either), but a good track to chill to. One thing I'd do if I were to keep it a chillen track is maybe go for some acoustic stuff, maybe a piano or a spanish guitar to go with it... I'm thinking Chicane style stuff with this, but hey, it's nice so far. :) |

I agree with Tony, that main melody IS catchy, but it's not an anthem. When I think of anthem, I think of something for the masses. like a big crowd with their hands in the air. This melody is saccharine. I think of little girls giggling when I hear it.
The original isn't anthem trance. It's ibiza trance... not all trance is meant to be anthematic (and that's good!) because if it were, you'd be bored as hell of it. Anthems are like chocolate. If you have too much of them, you'll throw up.
