I need to move video i have from a couple of dv tapes taken from my sony minidv camera onto a dvd or cd...

problem is i don't want to buy the necessary firewire, software, etc...

anyone know if there are stores that do this service? i know places will make cd's out of stills from a memory chip, but can they do video from dv tapes?

help would be helpful

The stores will want money to do this if you can find one, so you're probably better off getting a IEEE-1394 or Firewire card to do this yourself. There's lots of work involved in video - inputting, editting, writing a DVD, etc etc, many hours or days of work even for a small project, expecially if you've never done it before. You'll need a newer and fairly powerful computer with a big hard drive.

Maybe if you can find someone who has a computer all set up for this, they will do it for you. Buy them lots of pizza and beer.

I've got a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 audio card that has a IEEE-1394 port and it works quite well for loading DV video.

The firewire card itself isn't hard to install at all, took me about 5 minutes. Then you can just plug the IEEE 1394 wire into the cam, and the other end into the computer, and Windows Video Recorder (I think thats what its called) should pop up, choose your settings and record away. It does take a lot of hd space up if you want a high res video though.
