Problems with Installing some plugins

Sorry for the vaugue subject. First off I'm using Fruity Loops Producers Edition 5. Can someone tell me which folder VST VSTi and DXi. Cos i've installed some, plugins and searched for them, but alot of them come up with like, "Problem loading "whatever", make sure its installed correctly". Thats with a DXi. Also i get errors when loading VSTi. When in Floops how should DXi and VSTi be opened? in a channel, an FX channel or some other way?

You must make sure that the VTSi plugin gets installed within the FL dir, as usually it would be installed in the "program files /steinberg/vts plugins", make sure it's installed within the fl plugins dir, and you should be fine. (Image-Line/FLStudio5/Plugins/VST/.....)
A DX plugin is always a fx-rack plugin. When opening a synth, you must always choose the VSTi one, and open it by clicking the "channel" tab..
I hope this helps... If not, you'll probably need fl staff help.

So, correct me if i'm completly wrong, but a VSTi is to be loaded into a channel, and a DX or DXi is to be loaded into VSTi FX channel? The DXi don't seem to show up in the FX channels selection tho.

The plugins are in the correct channels i've checked. But when i try an open for instance, a certain VST plugin into a regular channel, it says loading whatever.dll then says can't load effect into a channel.

as mentioned before, install all plugins into the VST folder in floops. although you can install elsewhere you need to point floops to the folder in question (options, file settings and set your folders here). otherwise it'll default to the floops VST directory. now.

go to channels, add one, more... and a new window will pop up, called 'select generator plugin.' click on the refresh button on the bottom and select 'fast scan.' when thats finished, all new plugins will display in red. ok heres the tricky bit. floops is a bit stupid and doesnt know which plugins are effects and virtual rack gear and which ones are instruments. for this one you have to select all the instruments. they are mostly VSTi although there are sometimes DXi versions. an example in question would be the native instruments FM7 demo which is both a VSTi and DXi. i used the VSTi one. for the sake of simplicity only use the VSTi ones. sometimes they arent named very clearly so keep your eyes peeled. once you have selected all your instrument plugins you can close down this window and add them to the step sequencer.

now its time for the effects. to add these go to the mixer (view, mixer). click on any mixer slot and then select and more...

the same 'select generator plugin' window will appear. now select all your effects plugins. most of these will be VSTi and all my effects plugins are added and working using their VST component. next time you open the mixer you can open your VSTi effects.

if you accidentally load an effect into the step sequencer you will get the message 'can't load an effect into a channel.' which makes sense - an effect is something you put on an instrument. you cant just add an effect to nothing. therefore you use the channel to add an instrument. you click on the newly added instrument and give it an FX channel (say 1). then in slot 1 in the mixer you add the effect to be put onto the instrument. easy! if you do add an effect to the step sequencer, deselect it in the 'select generator plugin' window and select it instead through the mixer.

I got them to work. It's weird, I had Superwave on my old comp no hassels. But at least now I have it on my new comp.

Your totally right, Fruity is stoooopid sometimes. But now I have Triangle II, and reClaw, as well as Superwave :)

VST and DX insts/plugs install differently. VST plugs and instruments do not have to be registered - they can only be copied to your VST folder (unless they have some special sort of copy protection, but that's another story). This is true for most freeware VST insts/plugs.
There is no special folder for DXi and DX plugs. DXi have to be registered, which is done during installation, and then Fruity loops is serching the Windows registry for DXi registrations, and expects that DXi and DX plugs to be in the folder in which they were installed (c:\program files\something). DXi is an instrument, and cannot be opened in FX channel, just like an VSTi. With FLoops3 Dreamstation DXi was included, and it did not open in FX slot. Dunno about 5 though, I am using Cubase now.
