It doesn't. I was thinking, after doing some poor research, of getting some software to do it through some USB connection.
|
that might work... not really familiar on how those work, though. |

The software along with the cables costs $60.00. I think I'm better off burning some CDs. But some videos won't fit. Oh well.
Thanks for the help.

i had the same problem recently. depending how much you want to transfer, i think the cheapest way, without burining on to discs or copying on to floppies, is to have a direct cable connection. the cables are about 12 or so (or better yet try to borrow one) and its pretty fast. windows has a wizard to help you, but check out the these links---->

Alright if you have a switch or a router heres the exact steps.
1) Open up network connections in control panel.

3) hit next
4) hit next
5) select other
6) hit next
7) select the "this comupter connects ot the internet directly through a network hub......
8) hit next
9) hit next
10) enter a computer name(make something up) leave description blank.
11) enter a workgroup name(make something up)
12) hit next
13) select the just finish option
14) hit ok.
15) reboot if you have to
16) reopen network connections
17) right click on your most used connection it should be under "LAN or High-Speed Internet"
18) go to properties
19) click on the advanced tab
20) uncheck the "protect my computer and network by...."
21) hit apply.
repeate steps 1 through 21 for the other computer but this time give it a different computer name but make sure its in the same work group
22) After all that is said and done you go to the folder you want to share
23) right click on the folder
24) go to properties
25) go to the sharing tab
26) check "share this folder on the network"
27) go to start on the other computer
28) go to run
29) type in \\{the other computers name} with out the { and }
30) hit enter
31) then copy the files over.
32) repeat steps 22 to 325 as necessary but this time do it to a different folder. but make sure to unshare the ones you dont wish to share anymore. |

Don't give up so easily. I'm sure the COR is more than willing to help such a (apparently) respected contributor. Especially since you went so far as to make a thread about it, you never make threads.
We'll need to know what kind of internet connection you have, disk drives (CD, Floppy, DVD, Zip), type of files you'll be transfering, and...?
There are programs available that will chop the files up into numerous seperate files then you can transfer those a few at a time and recombine them. If both computers have an ethernet card you can get a special cable to connect them that way or even modify a currently owned ethernet cable. |
The specifics about the old compuer I already listed. It comes with a CD-Burner, Floppy drive, external zip drive. The old computer does not have an ethernet card.
The laptop comes with pretty much everything. I think there was even some porn in it, gift from Fry's to the buyer I guess.
Thanks for the help. I didn't give up. I'm still looking for some info.

A cable like this:
The cable has to be a male/male.Staples Link
You can get them cheaper tho in many places in LA. Its easy. Even i did it, and i couldn't point out a switch-box if my life depended on it.:toothless |

| What about going online with both computers and then sending through AIM or some other program like that? |

| Use a com port connection if available. Then setup a connection via the two. |

Use a network addon card for the laptop.
Or if it has usb ports use a usb flash drive |

| Just buy a PCI ethernet card for the computer if there's an open slot on the motherboard. They are only $10-15. |
