From an early age, Chris Pana had a passion for dance music. The 1998 dutch trance sound, captivated people and audiences around the world and was a huge turning point for trance during this time. Influenced by the sounds of DJ Tiesto, it wasn’t too long after that he found himself in and out of most records stores purchasing this style of music. Soon enough a pair of second hand turntables occupied his spare time. The journey began……
Having been a bedroom DJ for approximately 5-6 years, it wasn’t until mid 2003 that Chris had finally come out of his shell by joining the 5AM crew. Immediately, he was keen to get involved. Chris was discovered to be a talented trance DJ from handing out his demo CDs to various punters and crews around Melbourne, which to date have reached high demand status.
His seamless mixing didn’t go unnoticed and was given the chance to play opening sets. Months later, he was then given the opportunity to play in the side room with the Unify crew playing a peak time slot, totally captivating the audience by giving them an amazing show that gained him much support. Melbourne Techno Massive (MTM) gave Chris the opportunity to play the very last Night Shift at Sugar Suite. This was an honour for him in itself to bid farewell to such a unique and diverse night.
Chris’ hard working nature is evident through his success at landing DJ sets at large festivals throughout 2004 such as Slinky, Godskitchen, Ferry Corsten World Tour and Advent*jah Festival (Kryal Castle) to name a few. Interstate opportunities have also arisen having featured most recently at Sydney’s premier clubbing destination ARQ Nightclub, for A Night Of Trance vs. 5AM. This has further cemented Chris as a major player in Australia’s trance market. His sights are now set in the studio where he endeavours to give punters a taste of things to come.
Chris’ diversity in his style has landed him many other guest appearances at events outside of the regular trance circuit in Melbourne. He is a firm believer of thinking outside the square and this train of thought has landed him guest appearances at Factory, Chop Suey and more recently XSIVE Techno Sessions. It’s his skill and diversity that has allowed him to remain unique, you can be assured that experiencing Chris for the first time certainly won’t be your last. |

This week is a special excluesive set from John O'Callaghan! Be sure to check it out!
After spending most of his teenage years listening to rock and hip hop music, John discovered dance music at the age of 18. Not long after, he purchased his first set of decks and practiced every day for the following months. This new found love for dance music, coupled with his interest in computers led him to begin experimenting with music production in 1999.
It wasn't long before he realised his true sound lay in trance music. By 2001 John was immersed in the scene and had generated a large interest in his music by means of Internet music sites and guest radio mixes on National Irish Radio Station 2FM. As his productions developed and his style matured, he produced a number of original tracks and remixes which were played by DJs such as Matt Hardwick, Les Hemstock and Jon O'Bir.
On NYE of 2003 he was invited to DJ at the 2FM Sessions Tour live broadcast from Irish superclub Enigma. This was a huge privilege as it gave him the chance to showcase his productions on a national stage. Following this appearance, he was invited to co-host his own radio show along with Dublin DJ Neal Scarborough every Saturday night. Not only has this lead to wider exposure for his music, but equally helped him to develop and perfect his DJ'ing skills. It wasn't long before John & Neal collaborated together to produce some tracks, most notably "Inertia - The Emerald" which was signed to UK Label Discover Records and was played by Paul Van Dyk.
John O'Callaghan pres. Mannix - Mercury was signed to the biggest record label in the industry, Armin Van Buuren's A State of Trance. This track was played at all 3 Tiesto in Concert. With support from DJs and Producers such as Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Agnelli & Nelson, Matt Hardwick, John Askew, Rank1, and M.I.K.E amongst others, he has slowly cemented himself as one the finest new talents around. With several releases scheduled over the coming months and enquiries for DJ bookings rapidly coming in, the future certainly looks bright for this young Irishman." |
