white noise coming from my monitors

hey people,

i have a pair of Samson Resolv 50A monitors. Ive bought them in September 2004 and theyre quite decent. But this morning i switched them on before my computer, and i could hear a "nearly silent" constant noise coming from them. It's a kinda whitenoise, and it comes from the tweeter.

I tried unplugging them from my mixer, the noise is still there.
I tried putting the volume know behind the monitor to 0, the noise is still there. Is this normal ? shouldnt they be completely silent when i unplug the phono in and put the level to the minimum ?? :conf:

It's very possible that the noise has always been there. i always use them when my computer is already on, and my computer is rather noisy too.

please tell me what you think.

Hi.

The noise was there probably in the first place, unless there is a problem with them picking up some interferance. It can happen sometimes. But if you mean it's constant than it's likely to be the noise of the amp used in them. Most cheaper monitors have that sort of noise after you turn them on, You can hardly notice it. My alesis m1 Actives do this as well, but I can only hear it if I get really close to the tweeter, and have nothing running, or playing.. I heard some more expensive monitors and i noticed the more expensive they got the less of that noise you could hear.

that's exactly what it is. I cant hear it if something is playing. I was just hoping i hadnt damaged them by playing things to loud :D

thanks for the info, now i know it's normal :)
