look at my original post i said "OLD or REMAKES" ;) |
I noticed. I edited it to point out that putting playing an old tune and playing a remake into the same box is quite ridiculous, since they are two vastly different things. |

obviously old tracks and remakes are different things
but i put them in the same ball park because for me if a dj plays loads of old tracks or remakes of old tracks that tells me either the dj is living in past glories, they cant be arsed to find new tracks, or the genre is so no good new tunes are being made.....
hope i cleared it up for you:p |

Ahh I see. Well let's break this down:
Midtone - Pearl came out in 2002, so that's hardly an oldie per se. For instance, nobody complained when Dave Clarke dropped several tunes that were 2-3 years old in his EM. Moon Project - Moments Are Forever is. However, dropping one old tune in a set has never been frowned upon, and why would it be? A glance backwards now and then is always appreciated from what I've seen and heard.
Then there's all the remakes, which indeed indicate that the business itself is running low on ideas. That however, has nothing in common with the one classic and the slightly old tune that Jon played in this set, which is why I don't really agree with you putting them into the same box of "crimes" as playing all these remakes. |

fair enough mate thats your opinion......
but if i was doin the world famous essential mix for me its a stamp in history for that time in that particlar genre, so i would not be playing old tunes at all or remakes as its not a good advertisment for you as a dj or the genre.... this is his time to shine to the wolrd so maybe if u wanna finish on a classic fair enough but pearl and all the remakes no need, are u tellin me he could of not found 'new' better tunes to replace them in the set:eek:
if not, then trance is in the :nervous: |

Well you can't really fault him regarding freshness of the tunes in this set. Apart from Netherworld and the two previously mentioned, none of the tunes are out yet (except for Nightoperator, but he played the Five AM release, which isn't out as far as I know).
He's not the only one dropping oldies in an EM either. Just look at King Unique (Tangerine Dream), Danny Rampling (Hardfloor - Acperience) or Blackstrobe (Jeff Mills - The Bells). The EM isn't about playing all the hottest new tunes, believe it or not. It never was. You're right about one thing though..
..which explains all the remakes. |

Great to see Jon still doing so well...
It shows character as a DJ when you drop a few older tracks in.. anyone can play 2 hours of super upfront music now available readily from the net... It takes a DJ to mix that up with some older stuff...
Great set Jon.. |
