Car Stereo Q: After-market head unit & AM radio

Is there a way to get AM radio with an after-market head unit? I've got a pioneer. I head a few Sony's before that one. Guys at the install place told me you can't get AM radio with the head units. Why??
That seems kind of silly. Why even have an AM band?
Is there some kind of antenna I can get? I gotta have my 790 sports talk I get in my other ride.

every head unit i've ever had in my cars had AM and FM radio.
Pionner and Kenwood.

| Like lücid said, the guy is probably an idiot. I've never heard of an aftermarket head unit that doesn't get AM. |
