The REturn of the USSR?

This thread might be a little late or not. But i have been thinking that most ppl in the former soviet union miss the way things were. Especially the Russians because their now poor and weak. So a few things came to mind anout Russia mostly. Putin has been seizing control of corporations and tv channels. Actually now i think all TV channels are owned by the Government. SO it kinda passed my mind with all what Putin has done does he plan on returning Russia to a new USSR state? I remember watching BBC once and Putin said he rules like a Tsar and a dictator. Than Moldavia and Beloruss are runned by Communist Governments. Another thing is that Putin has been trying to rebuild his military might by building a new nuke that no other country has. He has also been trying to get china to buy more weopons from his country and the army has been going through reorganisation. He has to really work on the army for russia to be taken seriously i mean come on they cant even beat terroists and they cant even protect their own borders. Well anyways what do you see russias role in the future? Are they going to be more like the USSR?

Yeah, well, you could pretty much say the same thing about 9-11.

Anyway, it's really not likely that another USSR-like state will form in the near future. The new little dictators aren't really very willing to givi in their power back to Moscow. The only thing Putin could do is to try and topple every single one of those regimes individually and then install a new pro-russian government. Such a course of action is really not very likely considering how Russia first has to stabilize itself before it starts thinking about regaining lost territories.

they werent any stronger or richer back under communism thats for sure. memories of people standing in line in the morning for hours with a coupon for bread and milk will surely not bring up any sense of prosperity. most russians who enjoyed the "equal" treatment during communism will never want to go back.

Yeah and the Soviet Army couldnt even beat Finland's resistance at or near the height of the USSRs power|

I don't see USSR comming back anytime soon. What you may see is a smaller and not international version of it being re-established within the borders of the Russian Federation.

Sadly, people did not have enough time to get used to democracy in russia. And too many people remember the more-or-less comfortable living they had in the USSR days. Sure you had to wait in line to get food, sure you had no freedom but you didn't have to worry about being robbed by bunch of armed thugs in a broad day light, you didn't have to worry about not being able to pay your rent, coz' your employer just paid you in your own products - matches!

Just look at the retired folks who went on strike against the reforms - these people don't even have enough government pension to pay for a monthly bus pass! Forget rent, food, etc. It's not like these people are enterprising youths or have savings and employer pension plans. Their former employer was USSR.

If anything, I see the beginning of another revolution in the making. Russian people are beginning to realize what they are giving up in return for a false sense of security that doesn't exist. The opposition movement is stirring up and I think we may see another revolution in not to distant future. Too many people still remember how bad it was when Brezhnev, Andropov, and even Stalin were in power.

Sometimes I really wonder if people on this forum just make things up off the top of their head...

I agree with the origonal poster. Putin is using fear to tighten his grip and the people love it, and he's letting the big business men do whatever they like so long as they support him. And ing them up big style when they don't. He controls the media, big business everything.

I rember recently he took control of local elections (think I'm right about the area where this happened) so that instead of "expensive" and "wasteful" elections he'd deside who was "elected". Thouse quotes are from an old lady getting interviewed by the way.

Has to be quote of the day...ROFL..nice one

Lira
Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!

Seriously now, stop that already. Every week both USSR and acid techno are supposed to come back. But nothing changes, nothing! Maybe that's because there's too much expectation that spoils the surprise factor.

Electro was forgotten, then came back from the ashes.
Bush was forgotten, then his son came back from the ashes.

Please forget acid techno, USSR and Bush. Then one day, Chris Liberator will become the world's #1 DJ fighting capitalist pigs and the president of the United States will be this really fit girl with a twin sister.
