| True! Anything more than 1.50 for a bottle of water is outrageous. On alcohol, pop, juice I really don't care what you charge. But something like water, that people need when they're out dancing at a club SHOULD be easily available. I make sure to always keep 4 bucks on me in case of instances like what happened to me at the Oakenfold party, where I very nearly passed out from dehydration until one of the bartenders gave me a free glass of water from the tap. More clubs should offer that choice, System Soundbar is great for that, I'd even pay a buck for a glass of tap water when faced with a choice between a bottle for 3.75 and that. I think clubs make most of their profit from drink sales (correct me if I'm wrong) and understand the thought process behind jacking up prices, but for a bottle of water, I think the prices are insane. I'd be HAPPY if it were only $2.50 I'd probably buy 2 or 3 a night rather than the 0 I buy right now. |

If the water were $1.50 or $2.50 then you'd be complaining because cover is $30-40. The club has to pay it's staff, DJs as well as guest djs' hotel bills, dinner bills and flights somehow. This goes for ANY club in Toronto. Consider yourself lucky that you dont live somewhere else in the world where cover is routinely $30-40 (no guests) and drinks are $10.
Clubs are not entertainment charities. Having said that though, tap water is always free although i suspect most people would rather pay for bottled water because it just tastes better.
One last note. Its always interesting when people complain about drink prices at a bar when they would never think twice about paying $3 for the same can of pop at a restaurant that they could buy at the supermarket for 75 cents.
When you buy a drink at a club you are paying for more than the drink. You are paying for the club in which you bought it. And trust me when i say that $10-15 at the front door doesnt cover it. |

| Well apparently it's free to get water in a cup and at VIVA you can go to the washroom and refill your water bottle after buying a water bottle which is good because I have seen other clubs where they actually make the bouncers forbid people to go to the washroom with a water bottle because they don't want people re filling their bottles but at VIVA the bouncers don't break your balls over little things like that:happy2: |

I can't find one club (not only viva)especially afterhours can afford to sell their bottle water or pop for even $2.50 or less. Just let you know a few cost of operation for just ONE REGULAR NIGHT .So next time Matt,you can think and use simple calculation(if you know Matt).. before open you mouth and just complain.
1) laser with depreciation and utility -- $1500
2) securities -- $3000
3) rent+ insurance+ hydro -- $4000
4) staff (bar/coat check/cleaner)-- $2000
5) Djs -- $1500 to $2000 (internation djs extra)
Jay is right that we are lucky in toronto already. even down south like LA, NY or europe ..you are going to pay $40-50 us at the door and easily $7 -$10 drinks. So support our nice TO clubs or you will have not more parties to go to very soon. |

I can't name one afterhours which is selling their bottled water for $2.50 or less or and if you are actually suprised by the cost of water at an afterhours then it must have been your first time going to an afterhours because everyone else who has been has known for a while. Matt I have yet to find bottled water for $2.50 or less at VIVA, GUV, BOA, SYSTEM, COMFORT ZONE, PULSE, FILM or any other afterhours in this city. |

u seem to have missed my point.
I don't argue the fact it is expensive to run a headliner night... but you seem to have this problem with me cuz I "refill my water in the bathroom"
I am not gonna pay $3.75 every time I want a bottle of water, because I usually go through 8-15 a night. I am gonna refill it in the bathroom, thank you very much. I already paid $30+ cover... why should I throw another $30+ at water? I throw an extra $5 at the bathroom attendant you hired, just for using some soap (yet he still insists I tip him every time I wash my hands...)
I'm happy to support TO clubs, but Viva just isn't as great as it used to be, so I'm taking my business elsewhere... |
