hey, new guy here and all that... keep in mind if you want something that you'll use to record your live sets, there's a big difference between a crap and a decent op-amp/adc (analogue-to-digital converter), and just because something has a line in on it doesn't mean its going to record at the kind of quality you'd be happy with. so if that's a feature thats important to you, you're best to either borrow one off someone and test it, or check and see if anyone on the internet has done the same. i know when i had a mate that wanted a liveset recorded, we checked the inputs of both my laptop (ibm thinkpad) and my 'real' soundcard (at the time, a CardD+), and the sound quality difference was significant - both in terms of what our ears told us, and what a frequency analysis showed us. esp if you want to use the mixes as promo / repeated listening / etc, its worth checking out.
that said, i carry an ipod now, having gone thru six mp3 players previous to it, and i love it to death. i've had too many creative players die on me to trust them anymore, though i've heard good things about the iriver. |

All I Know is that Zen Touch is a great player, and it now comes in 20/40Gb version, dont think it got a line in though :S
The creative players has alwyas sucked with their installation, you have to install it to see it in windows, however there is this one thing you can do with this: Do a simple firm-update and it will come as a portable device in windows =) |

ok peoples I am travelling in about 5 weeks time and need your expert advice on which mp3 player I should purchase. Im looking at something which holds 20 gigs and willing to pay between $300-$400. Ive alreday decided against apple's ipod for the simple reason that all the other players seem to have superior battery lifes compared to it (which is what I'm looking for). I'm leaning towards the creative zen touch for the plain that that it has an animal 24 hour battery life.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated |

I saw the IRIVER H320 20GB @ JB-HI FI on special for 420 I think (around that)
I recommend you to buy it from there as you can bargain and get it almost at stock price (like I did)
My IRIVER kicks ass :D never going to make the switch |

Divide the "theoretical" battery life by about 10 and that is the real battery life. :) |

Sid i work in this department and i cant honestly tell you the iriver is by far the best machine.
If your still looking my best mate runs jb hifi at bondi and i can get him to look after you.
Plus if you buy within 30 days of travelling overseas you'll get the gst back at the airport. |

Heres the deal, get the iriver h340. My creative died so I just sent it in for a repair, cant wait so im getting a new one.
the iriver has 256k colours on a 2" screen, 40gb, 16hours playback, 2 headphones out, line in, usb on the go (connect to camera), plug and play, playback music, photos and even .avi with the new firmware update (from their offical site)
The bad thing is the price, you can get it for about $750 at those mumbo jumbo stores like: harveynorman, myers, camerahouse, dickssmith etc... but if you google it, you WILL get surprised on how much you can save.. I found it for noe more than $545 at http://www.camerastore.com.au/iRiver+H340-details.htm
or you can buy it at www.centre.net.au for about the same. I think is the best price you really can get. and by far the best player there is on the market! |
