Rane MP 2016

I'm trying to decide if I should get the older 2016 or the new 2016a. The reason is I don't need the multiple cue function. So basicly that makes these mixers only slightly different for me, and I want to know if one is better than the other.
One thing I noticed is the +6 on the eq of the new one verses +10 on the old. Other than that is there any quality difference between the two? ie(the pots, the crossfader, other technical stuff)

Hey Nou,

I would always consider getting the later version of something. Very often they fix other things too with later editions i.e. stuff that may not have been noticable to us on the whole but may have given a downgrade in performance or reduction in life span (One hopes at least).
Not being a big fan of Rane anyways I would say get something different (But again that's only a personal preference thing and not based on hardcore fact).

There are exceptions like some of the Vestax mixers that were actually made in Japan. The company moved to Taiwan and thus had a reduction in quality. This is true for the old PMC05 Pro II.

Do a bit more research on the mixer if this is a concern for you.

Cheers

When I was out at Rane they showed me this wall that had every product they ever made on it. But they didn't have the 2016a. What they had was the 2016 with the newer 2016a knobs on it.

The person I was speaking with said they were basically the same mixer. What I thought was interesting is that they changed from +10 to +6 on the EQ because several clubs suffered speaker blowouts from reckless DJs.

trinity showed a link a while back of people comparin the 2016 to the urei and bozak and there were alot of people rippin on the quality of of the 2016... i was a bit surprised by it, but ive never used one myself

Get whichever one can be had for the least amount of bread. According to Rane, they wouldn't have changed it, but the pots were no longer available/being manufactured. The split cue was a requested feature, so they rolled the two changes into one and called it the a.

I'm not a fan of huge EQ boosts. Whether or not this makes a difference to you...

I'm not a fan of the +10 EQ. I have an A&H Xone at home and those EQ's are +6 which I like, so I guess I'll go with the 2016a. I also thought about the new Urei but I like having a led cue monitor so I know how much to adjust the gain.

And with the Rane you get a gain to adjust. ;)

What are the 'pots' that were mentioned? Love this mixer btw, and my personal preference would be the 2016a cos of the multi-channel cue. Beautiful mixer.
