Recording on computer through my Vestax 275?

I cant figure out what I am doing wrong.
I have a Monster RCA to minijack wire going from the master rca's to the line-in on my sound blaster audio card. i have the master 1/4s going from my mixer to my amp. so i am plugged in to BOTH sets of master outputs on my vestax.
i am using soundforge 6 to record with.
i am getting no sound at all.
when i hooked up the audio card i just stuck in in the pci slot. i did NOT connect the optional audio wire from my sound card to my motherboard. was i supposed to?
line-in is selected in the audio properties.
i was also getting no sound when i was using the built in audio on my motherboard. i thought it was the jack so i installed this sound card.
there is no record out on the vestax? just 2 sets of mains? |

To me it seems most likely to be an issue with some software element. Try recording using another program, perhaps even the windows sound recorder. Anything to try to verify the presence of a signal.
Also is there a forum for your sound card where you could see if anyone else is having the same problems? Cos sometimes thouse can be really handy. |

i'm looking at a pic of the rear panel view of the 275, and it looks like you're doing everything properly.
my only advice would then be, to make sure that you have the proper sound card selected from multimedia options. once you have the proper sound card selected, then again go back and make sure that you have line-in selected from you recording choices and hammer away, hope this helps |

| I have a similar problem with my on-board sound card. For some reason, it just doesn't get a line signal. Luckily, I still have my PCI SBLive in there to do the work. I'm really not sure what to recommend other than buying a cheap PCI sound card. |

| Always make sure you have the correct device drivers installed, can cause all saughts of problems, i nearly was going to go out and buy a new soundcard when mine always made crackling noises. Then once i installed the drives it worked perfectly, nice cripsy clear sound |

he already said that he has an extra PCI sound card in place and he's not getting audio from either that PCI sound card or his built-in motherboard soundcard...so either it's the drivers, or the device is not selected from it's appropriate menus...nothing else that i can think of, perhaps the line-in is muted in the recording menu |

sounds like a software issue to me. the wire yo spoke of will probably be your CD audio wire..?
either way, check all input settings in soundforge, and windows. double check that you have the correct recording input selected in windows, and that line in isn't muted on the volume settings.
can't help with soundforge settings, i never used it... |

ok, this might not solve anything but hey, give it a go, seems like you have tried a fair bit and it isnt working, so providing u didnt just forget to move the channel fader up this might be ur answer.
go to the control panel -> sounds and devices (assuming you're using XP otherwise something similar to that) -> click the "audio" tab -> then select the correct option under "sound play back" and "sound recording"
Then apply and then reboot soundforge :)
lets hope that works, it'll be something like that i think, u can get me on msn if u need ne help (or send me a PM)

as per my original post i actually did purchase a cheap pci soundcard - a SBLive. I am having the same problems as i had with my on-board sound. |

the device is selected. the only 2 options i have is the soundblaster driver and some windows option.
the line in is also not muted.
i will try and update the drivers tonight. |

i tried installing another program, although i forget what it is called right now. that software didnt work either.
i am going t otry and update my drivers tonight and see what happens. |
