Have to agree with you here. I use to think Armin was PVD's mini-me but I've heard more new tracks in his set than most other trance dj's. His mixing is getting better too. Plus, I like the stuff coming from armada. Will probably check this out.

Yeah, his radio show always has new tracks but I guess I just wasn't feeling the selection of those new tracks. Perhaps for me though it was just my taste was changing away from Dutch trance. Some hits, some misses.
PVD is coolio but I've mentioned a few times that I get sick of him spinning the same PVD songs again and again. I agree with you there.
Oaky was 1999, Tiesto 2000, Armin 2002, Ferry Corsten in between, PVD in there somewhere. I don't know about now??? |

I honestly think that Armin simply lives in the shadow of the other dutchies. And he really can't do much about that. It's hard to compare him to Tiesto/Ferry when they were in their prime playing "in-prime" trance...there was a time in which trance was happening - like Tiesto ripping up Limelight, Ferry rocking Buzz, those years. Now it's kinda turning "cheesy" if you ask me. And in Armin's case, it's like beating a dead horse. I'm not putting him down in any shape of form talent wise, I'm just saying the genre is beginning to dry due to the lack of creativity and similar methods/beats/synths that most producers are trademarked for (ie: pvd i slam you over and over again) We need to go back into set composition and continue "building the flow" When Paul played twilo he never relentlessly slammed the club with anthems over and over again. He would play songs like Tillman Uhrmacher - On the run. This song has no ultimate i slam you build ups but a rather simple soft and progressive melody which i find more important than bringing down the house with a bassline.
Sorry I am negative today...its monday you can't blame me! |

Am I like the only one excited to see Armin? I dunno - for me each new set by Armin is a new experience. Although you also have to keep in mind that in 99 - 2002 there was no influx of international DJs every 2 months. Now, it seems like you have some "big name dj" spinning almost every week.
Sure, it kills the luster after a while. But nonetheless - you all know that if you go there you will still have a great time.
Quite honestly, I'd be very pleased to see "Oslo Nights" lineup:
Elusive
LikWit
Lange
Evolution
and
Perry O'Neil
Tommy Pi :D
Ozgur
