I was told off in New York that I was driving a "gas guzzling SUV" (I was trying to leave the city and was stuck in the Democratic Convention protest). I yelled back "War Mongering American".

I don't think it helped.

Oh, and just so's ya know, if I'd really researched this car, I wouldn't be driving it. But it does get me everywhere I need to go during this ty weather. I work shift work, so I gotta drive at the worst times. :D

Should've taken after this pic:

I guess fresh snow on the road is the closest thing to off-roading the average SUV will ever do. I still cringe at the site of 50 SUVs lined up on the highway during rush hour though. :eyespop:

While we're on the topic of bad driving, I'd like to remind all of the s that are pulling onto the highway that the merge lane is for you to accelerate to the speed of the traffic. You do not pull onto the highway from the merge lane at 60, and then accelerate!

That's definitely one of the worst problems on highways in Ontario... I'd like to see someone actually compile some stats on this, because I believe it's responsible for at least a quarter of the accidents and/or traffic jams on major highways.

Even worse than the people who simply merge at 60 are the people who drive at 60 over the entire merging lane, and only when the lane cuts off THEN they decide to merge at 60. Not only s up the highway traffic flow but also the on-ramp. Like I said, I'm fairly certain these specific idiots shoulder a lot of the responsibility for traffic jams.

To the rest of you: if your car can't perform in snow, then don't drive in it! I'm sorry, but "I have a box" is not an excuse. I have a box too, okay - I drive a ing Corolla. Either take the friggin' bus or get yourself some snow tires and study your manual so you KNOW WHERE THE ING ACCELERATOR IS. The speed limits we have are MEANT for bad conditions - even in the worst snowstorm you shouldn't be driving more than 10-15kph under the limit. And if your car can't handle that speed or the visibility is too poor to drive safely, then PULL THE OVER and either wait for the snow to stop or call a damn tow-truck.

"Defensive driving" does NOT mean "shift into neutral and let the traffic push you along".

Some old lady pulled onto the highway in front of me today at 11 am doing 40. I actually passed her in the merge lane. Cars were all dodging to miss her. What an idiot! Why must these people be allowed to drive! Argh!

Happened to me a few weeks ago as well... while other cars were dogging this old geezer by switching to left lanes, I passed him in the merge lane. And they still don't have the mandatory re-examination for old farts?! They're the ones that slow the traffic down most of the time...

The best is when you have 2 or 3 old geezers clogging up traffic, and a storm of slow-ass TRUCKS clogging up all the left lanes because they're trying to get by. I see this on the 400 at least once a week.

I silently hope that someday, one of those truck drivers will not see the old geezer and just plow right into him/her. I think a totalled car is the only thing that would keep these jerks and jerkettes off the roads - even if you had the mandatory re-testing (but oh no, we can't DISCRIMINATE!!!), I think they'd just drive without a license anyway.

I stop to look at these farts sometimes as I'm illegally inside-passing them and I swear to god they look like they're either half-asleep or half-dead.
