Is there such a thing as too much trance?

I have a bit of a problem.

I've been listening to trance for a few years. And lately, for some reason, when I listen to Trance I don't feel the same excitement, rush, exhilaration, and emotions I did a few weeks ago. It seems as if the other day I woke up in a twilight-zone and trance was gone.

I'm beginning to think it might be because I listened to too much trance, since about 95% of the music I listen to is trance.
Is there such a thing as too much trance?

I hope not, because I really enjoyed it, and I really want it to come back.

I'm going to try to deprive myself of trance for a while and see if it helps. Is it a wise move? And has anyone experienced this and have suggestions?

Thank you.

That happened to me 1 and a half months after I joined this forum.

That was about a year or so after I started listening electronic music, but only about half a year after I stopped calling it all "techno" and started learning the genres. So I guess "trance lasted me about half a year. Since then I've been whipping through the gunres. I'm wondering what will happen when I run out, because I sure dont seem to be finding one that I never get tired of...

Maybe I'll end up creating my own.

Completely understandable. Honestly, if it doesn't happen to someone, he's the person with a problem.

Ask most big name djs and they'll tell you they listen to all forms of music in their free time.

Of course if you listen to a whole lot of trance at one time without their being some defining moment (like an event or person with you) it will get old. That doesn't mean you "don't like trance anymore." It will come back.

These 'down' times are good because you'll experiment with new subgenres and genres all together. Look at Sasha, has he ever held onto one genre?

It would be ignorant for you to think (and im not accusing you) that trance is the only good form of music. Nobody likes change, but it'll happen anyway, so stop fighting. Go listen to some ska.

Jk, don't listen to ska. But go search around, I'm sure you'll find something, and it'll lead back to trance and hopefully mix with it for you to better define your tastes in music.

Thanks man, quite an insightful response. :)

I think you're right, I have been finding myself listening to quite a bit of deep house lately, which I enjoying quite a bit.

I'm sick of MOST trance lately because i've heard all the songs i like hundreds of times and there aren't that many new good tracks. That's why i've been listening to psy/goa lately. I actually prefer psy/goa to "normal" trance now.

One way I like to check out different styles is to find some online record stores that let you listen to samples. check out the different catagories and if you find something you really like, look for other titles from the same label and so on

Can you take the color blue out of the sky? Can you grab the mountains and put them in a pocket? Can you sit down at a table with a knife and fork and try to eat a rainbow?

Try some soft rock, something completely different beside trance!!!
I always listen to everything but I keep trance at the top.

Observe these wise words: you cannot groq tired of goa... come to the dark side! (but wait! goa is not dark! it was just a figure of speech!)

Probably, and I think people here are right; if you get enough, try something else. I'm listening to all kinds of electronic music. Progressive house, progressive trance, downbeat, breaks, chill & psy. And I still love a good trancetune when I hear one :)
