He must have popped in for some hot chocolate in between his skiing runs. You know how it is - you're skiing in Austrian Alps. next thing you know, Dubya calls you up and says -
Dubya: "Hey Dick, sorry mate, I got to liberate Canadians and can't go to this shindig - mind stepping in for me, dawg?"
Dick : "Fo shizzle, yo! but my threads be bangin! I got my FUBU parka on, my Lugz kicka's on, and my hip "2001 Queen Latifa Gangbang Staff" hat - you tink da homiez would mind?"
Dubya: "Nah, dawg - they all know how we iz wit style, ya know? Next thing you know the pope will be wearing a robe I got him at Walmart to show dat fashion is soooo overrated! So, just fuk da haters, yo! If dem be tellin' you sh~t, tell dem to suk yo ass, ya hea?"
Dick: "Aaait homz, I just swing by for a few - just check the scene, have a few bacon cheesburgers and be back for my next ski run, ya dig? Oh, dawg, dawg, one more thing - can you hook me up wit some cash to hit up my Airforce 1 pilot, so that wigga can get some gas - he'd been runnin me on these heliski runs all day long and beginnin' to bitch that he's runnin' out, ya know?"
Dubya: "Aaait, bro - just put it on my "Zionist Express Rewards" card, aait?
Dick: "Peace out - stay evil my brotha!"
Dubya: "Yea, aait. Hitcha up later, dawg!"

I think it does show a lack of respect (maybe not huge....) but still he's representing the United States. If that was a British minister acting so casually at such an immensely sensitive and poignant ceremony it would be noticed.

Wearing a cheapo hat (as occrider pointed out "staff".... tactful) and a military marked jacket. You couldn't write that kind of stuff, no photoshopping required. The only way you could make it worse would to add a Nazi armband.
It showed a lack of thought and a lack of care and understanding of the gravity of the ceremony. And painted the picture of "another ignorant American".
Remember what this is about. If he turned up to a memorial pertaining to recent war deaths in Iraq like that would it be ok? No it wouldn't, is it any different? Yes... but only in one way the number and kind of people involved (women and children whole families, millions of them). Time has noting to do with it, and if it does then we forget the lessons it should teach us.
And he showed either a huge lack of understanding or a huge lack of respect. Either or it was a faux pas of the highest order really (say dress isn't important if you like but it is, it shows how much you attach to a situation). |
Oh give me a ing break! As if there was a ing dress code. Sounds like someone's being a media lap dog.
*Newsflash* Not everyone in the world even wears black to a funeral! (this wasn't even a funeral). |

The fact that he's THERE is the point...   |

It doesn't show the proper respect. It's very simple. I wouldn't even turn upto a job interview dressed as casual as that (like theres a ing dress code right???) . Never mind a memorial to the liberation of people from the camps, and remberance of 6 million people delibratly killed men women and children (much much worse than war dead).
It shows no respect to any of them. It shows it ment nothing to him.
(thanks for the lapdog insult, nice argument...)
Would you wear hiking boots to a funeral or even a job interview? No becuase it would look like you didn't care enough about the person/job to bother your arse to get dressed properly for the occasion. |

They sure did... and I'm including the Protection Squad man. Are there similar military outfits used nowadays? :conf: |

Great point. I guess those people dressing in black at the ceremony sympathize with the nazis. |

its a ing stupid point.
the fact he didnt wear black isnt the problem, its the jacket he is waering thats the problem, he looks like hes at a football match. If the jacket was black people would still be complaining.
It shows a lack of respect, and if you cant see that, then your thick. |

Maybe he forgot is frickin' jacket and had to borrow one from one of the military boys? It certainly looks warm.
I'm sure it wasn't intentional and I think some people need to think logically for a second before jumping to conclusions.
Lets think about this, where else is an American diplomat going to get a winter jacket at the last min.?
I think the situation is a lot simpler than some of you are making it out to be. |

no, it doesnt look intentionally offensive, but it DOES look intentionally lazy!
why is it that righties need to always defend themselves, even for fashion?
im sorry, but if you are invited to commemorate and remember a serious part of history (and one that remembers 'freedom') you dont show up looking like youre gonna go hunting on a snowmobile| |
