| What do you think to Ryan Gyaki? He's scored every goal for Canada U20 team to get them into the finals of the World Championship. Anyone watch any of the matches? Ryan plays for my team in England and all our strikers are so it'd be nice to think we have a hot prospect comin thru! |

Yeah Canada is in another, yes ANOTHER transistion stage from generation to generation in regards to the senior NT. Personally, I haven't seen this kid play, he might be great who knows.
To be honest, out of most of our youth, I would say the guy who has impressed me most is Josh Simpson. Sure, not flashy, not a stand-out amongst 22 players, but he has the heart of a lion and consistency of a champion. |

There are definitely a few youngsters that are worth keeping an eye on. I didn’t get a chance to catch any of the games of that tournament but it’s always a pleasure to watch a vibrant Cad. U20 side, which has been extremely solid in the new millennium. I remember the performance in the UEA, that was absolutely brilliant! I was utterly flabbergasted to see such quality football from a young Canadian squad. I’m definitely looking forward to the summer, this side looks capable of doing some damage in Holland. One prospect you’ll be sure to hear about is Julian Deguzman’s younger brother who captains Feynoord’s u17s at age 14, I forget his name but Canadian football fans will pray that he opts to represent Canada instead of some other nation like Juda Whoregreaves may all of his dear ones rot in hell until the end of times, amen.
To go back to Gyaky, I haven’t seen him in action yet but here’s what one of my friends has to say about it:
| quote: | Gyaki again. Well we didn't get to see tonights game. But I can understand where some would think we have the next Maradona within our ranks if you are relying on just the goal summaries. But from the two games that I did see it really seemed like a case of mostly being at the right place at the right time for Gyaki. Still, In the end, he will have to be viewed as the man of the tournament for Canada.
Having said that, I hope that I am not bursting anyone's bubble but I could be wrong and I will have to watch the games again and pay closer attention to him. To be perfectly honnest, aside from the goals outburst, there have been players on our U20 squads from the past two editions that have managed to catch my attention to much a greater extent. Still, you have to be extremely impressed by his ball controll while taking the pass from Rosenlund on the goal versus Honduras. That goal was a good display of confidence and technical abilities. I just fear that comparaisons to Maradona might raise expectations to unrealistic levels.
The two goals versus Mexico were mostly Jaime Peters' doing. The first one was a result ball played squarely into the box where several players from both sides misplayed the ball and Gyaki pounced. On the second goal in that same game, Gyaki was in a perfect postion to slot it home but the quality and work on that goal came from Jaime Peters, who squared a perfect pass to an unmarked Gyaki.
Again, Not to take anything away from Gyaki and his performance. I am just concerned that the Lynch mob will come out wondering what he isn't named to Yallop's next squad. I wouldn't be surprised if he is added to the senior squad. But I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't either |
If you want to ask this same question to peeps who know football inside out in Canada >> http://www.canadian-soccer.com/forum/

Owen Hargreaves, Tomasz Radzinksi, Craig Forest (keeper), among many, many others. We aren't that great, but we've yielded some pretty good players over the years, considering soccer is maybe the 5th or 6th biggest sport here (unfortunately). |

Ok I'm gonna get really mad in a minute if somebody doesn't mention King Paul Peschisolido!!! |

| .... Or even Paul Stalteri, playing on the reigning champs of a European league, that's not bad for a canuck. :eyespop: :D |

Stalteri is probably the hottest export, being one of the anchors of Werder Bremen. He never looked like a hot prospect to me with his dodgy passing during his inaugural days with the nats but he has evolved into a sheer class polyvalent player. I take my hat off. That is one player who deserves serious praise. He had contacts with Sampdoria and Aston Villa recently but I don't think he'll be changing environments any time soon. I was blown away when I read this article the other day :

Paul Stalteri voted into All-Star Team
January 18, 2005 @ 22:45:16
Werder Bremen players Paul Stalteri and Valerin Ismaël have been voted by the fans into the Bundesliga All-Star team. The All-Star team will face the German National team in a charity match in which all proceeds will be donated to the victims of the Tsunami in Asia.
"It is an honour to be voted in by the fans as one of the top players in the league, but most importantly it is a privilege to be able to play a part in helping those affected by the Tsunami." says Paul Stalteri
The game will be played on Tuesday January 25th at the Schalke Arena at 19:45. The game will also be televised live on ZDF.

You have to mention Julan Deguzman as well who’s been vital in Hannover’s midfield, he was voted by the Kicker recently as one of the top 3 defensive midfields in the Bundesliga. With his contract coming at an end this summer, Deportivo and Tottenham are said to be the most interested in his services.
Another player I like is Hume, I hope he finds his way through to a premiership outfit.

Hmmm, he seems to hot and cold for me. Sure like vs. Spain scoring a breathtaking scorcher is awfully impressive but the next couple of games, he will try to do the same shot 100 times and people start thinking he should try out for kicker in the NFL. I'll give him the benifit of the doubt because of his age, but IMHO I think we need workman like guys that give the same every game i.e. Simpson, Stalteri, Peters and maybe De Guzman... reliability is what we lack but guys like these seem to be the exception. |
