Iraqi Elections

Ok I'm a little confused about what's going on with the media these days and I'm starting to lose all faith even in those that were more or less credible...

So first everyone's beating the war drums for the war

Then everyone's on the bandwagon of bashing the war and that it was bad and wrong and all that stuff

Now everyone jumped on another bandwagon and all of the sudden once again the war was good and all we are hearing are great things...so much so that this morning on the bus I saw someone reading THE SUN where the headline was "VICTORY" on the front page.

All this bandwagon jumping makes me rather skeptical. I know it's a great thing they have elections and all but I'm losing faith in many of the sources.

If a single post beyond mine can be made without questioning or challenging the American involvement in Iraq - I will be surprised. This thread is about the vote - the "golden moment" of opportunity for a people who have not seen anything close in over 50 years.

-----------------

I think we are witnessing something that will spur a middle-east equivalent of the "collapse of communism". A "tipping point" if you will.

The world is very proud of the Iraqi people - what a marvelous moment of true, meaningful impact!

Much of what I've heard over the last few days has been that the Iraqi people are satisfied/content to be finally and rightfully accepting their roles in a democratic society.

No doubt about that!
It's just that the constant bandwagon jumping by the media is rather frustrating and confusing to say the least.

I'm just curious to know who came on top:conf:

11000 iraquis that now reside in Canada voted in the past couple of days.

...that way, instead of listening to third rate liberal ideologues spewing mindless rhetoric, you can listen to third rate conservative windbags spew mindless rhetoric.

Sorry, I just had to make a cynical statement. I have to agree that going beyond the big headlines and commentary from our mainstream media gives you a greater perspective on issues.

Nevertheless, whatever the faults and failings on behalf of the war effort were over the last while, no one can deny the magnitude of this achievement for Iraq.

I don't get why ex-pats get to vote. Not like any one of them know what's going on in Iraq anyway.

Voting in most countries is based on CITIZENSHIP, not residency.

If you moved to, say, France, you could vote in the Canadian election.

Not Lieberal though, that would be treason. :whip: :whip: :whip:

Kinda wonder why that pattern coincided with the presidential elections...
