Has anybody done it before?
I'm doing it for the first time on Friday and I'm pretty sure I'm going to faint. How much do they take?
I've got a face like a porcelin doll as it is, I really don't think I can spare any. :nervous: |

yeah ive did it before, try not to panic about it i they the take a pint from you
if you start to feel ill just say to the bird (normally) sitting next to you and they give you a biscuit or a drink, think its to do with the sugar in them or something
but well done on giving blood |

i do it, and i do it regular.
first u arrive, and have to answer questions about ur health, some quite intrusive. after that, u have to have ur iron level checked. they do they by poking ur thumb with a sharp pointy stapler style tool. it draws blood, they use an eyedropper and place a drop in a test tube of liquid.
If your iron level is fine u then go and lie on a bed while ur arm is cleaned and then u have a needle into ur arm, and the pint can take anywhere from 6-10mins, although, my first was 4mins. second, was 6mins.
i highly recommend sitting down after for atleast 5mins, and taking a good waterbased drink, and 2-3 biscuits. dont just charge off like i did thinking i feel fine and carry on with ur day. doing this will most likely result in u being majorly ill, like i was.
u can only do it 3 times a year, so its a small sacrifice.

I've given blood three times now, and I've got myself a little key chain too. :D
The first time I gave blood I was fine. The second time, I felt OK afterwards, but about 20 minutes later (after I'd stumbled my way down to the bus stop, all proud of myself, like) I started to get really light-headed. It cleared up after a couple of minutes but I'd never felt quite like that before.
Then the third time I gave blood I had barely put my feet on the floor afterwards, when they had me laying down on a bed again, with those cold swabs over my neck and face. Heh, it was well embarrasing, but I got a limitless supply of chocolate cookies for it. And none of those cheapy ones either, only the hardcore chocolate chip ones from Sainsburys.
If I were you I'd give it a go. You never know if you'll ever need blood, so I say share the wealth and donate. You'll feel good about it afterwards.

| oooooooo...blood. i've always wanted to donate blood too, but its jus not something that pops into my head on a daily basis. with my blood type tho...AB, that makes me the universal receiver, not donor...but it would be a good experience anyway. |
