I was thinking about getting some turntables and a mixer and what not. I was curious how do I keep everything in good condition, what I need to do. What I should buy. Money isn't too much of a problem, I would just rather start with better stuff then spend more to get it later after buying cheap crap. Just give me some recommendations, I am looking at some technic1200 tables, and a pioneer mixer. What kind of headphones are recommended, or speakers, any good websites that have good deals? Vinyl deals/websites? Do I need anything else besides a mixer and two tables? I am sure other people have asked this, but any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks. |

You need two decks a mixer, two cartridges, headphones, speakers/receiver, and some vinyl. Getting good gear the first time is definitely the right thing to do. As for what mixer you should get thats a fairly subjective choice but you can get better than the Pioneer for the money. Which Pioneer were you looking at? |

this is an extremely TA dj booth friendly thread. :p everyone will recommend tech 1200s, and will say its better to start with better stuff than buying 'cheap crap'. since you have the money, get a pair of tech 1200s. i recommend the m3d, mk5 or mk5g. the mk2 is good, but it has the 0% pitch click.. as for mixers the djm 500/600 are good, and there is a high chance of running into them in clubs.. there are other good pioneers which are less expensive (707).. you may want to check out rane, ecler and allen & heath mixers too. also you may want to mention how much you have to spend on equip, it will help recommendations.. oh and run some searches, this topic has been covered alot and will be invaluable.

Money will not be a problem, I will be making around 4-500 a week with 2 summer jobs, and my school's paid for, this just seems like the most interesting hobbies, and considering I really listen to this music 24 7 its not gonna be a problem to practice a lot. just going to have to do it at night. |

wouldnt go with a djm600 anymore, waste of money now when you can get mixers twice the parts quality as the pioneer for less. Denon X1500 my best choice for mixer under 1 grand. 899$, id def. look at that mixer man. Also the NUO5,over a grande but still if you want the djm then the nuo 5 is a lil bit more than the pioneer but A LOT better. X1500, and NUO, dont go for the 62,i dont like it,you cant hear eq's in cue mode . I hate it. X1500 is a love charm. |

Definitly go for the Technics 1200's I'd say go with the MK5's, you don't really need an m5g. I'd personally recommend some ortofon cartriges/needles. Mixer, can't really go wrong with a DJM-600, it's got a nice simple interface I think. Headphones, you'll see a lot of debate here, but I use the sony 700's and they do the job quite well.
As for Allen & Heath mixers, I've seen a lot of talk on these forums, and this question is more general to everyone. Where do you get them in the USA? I've always wanted to take a look at them.. but can't because I don't know where to find them. |

If i were you, i would seriously look into a djm-707 b/c there going for a killer price, are extremely durable, sound quality is good, good all around, even smooth mixing, and will allow you to get into scratching if that intrest ever arises. (i origionally wasn't into turntablism, but reciently i've been beat jugling, and im even more glad i bought a versitle mixer like the rane empath b/c having versitle tools really helps) |

I originally just wanted to mix trance but then I bought a badass battle mixer because it was on sale. The rest is history I now spin breaks and underground hip-hop with an emphasis on turntablism. You can't go wrong with a battle mixer. |

why 1200's and not 1210's? |

Its faster to type 1200 :D , go for either one, there basically the same, its just the 1210 has an internal power converter so you can use them abroad, just go for whatever is cheaper/better condition. |

They look better and the sliver reflects negative energy from the world, making the turntables happier |
