The first thing you've gotta do is drop that attitude. If you "quit" 3 times and then started up again, then you didn't actually quit. Quitting is a lifelong process, same as it is for alcoholics and drug addicts. My buddy would always "quit" - for a few weeks, maybe a few months, until the stress in his life started to build up and then he'd start again - and every time he'd say that he "could quit anytime". If you're trying to quit, you have to resolve NEVER to smoke another cigarette again, and that means first accepting that taking a little hiatus is not the same as quitting. |

life is full of simple addictions that drag us down & make us blind.
smoking is one of those addictions. |

a wise man once said
"If you're trying to quit, you have to resolve NEVER to smoke another cigarette again, and that means first accepting that taking a little hiatus is not the same as quitting"
so true, tell that to my dad. "I quit" 2 months later, smoking like theres no tomorrow |

well see theres major reasons ppl do things and sub reasons. theres things that fully direct ur actions and things that are a bonus. my main reasons is cause of $$$ and health. these are my 2 strongest motives. the ones thatll efect me directly. so if u keep reinforcing ur main motives,i believe that it will finally push u over the top and be ur main drive. so do not mock my main drives into doing something. sure smelling like an ashtray, smoking outside, being secluded from the norm maybe a good reason to quit but to me theyre just extras. |

| Good luck with quitting Eric. My friend who's been smoke free for a few years now told me that all it takes is will power. No matter what method you try if there's no will there's no way. Plus you have to be mentally ready to stop. If you're not, you will start up again eventually. |

I think that if your main reason for quitting is money, it will be very easy to make excuses to start smoking again. Maybe you got a Christmas bonus, won the lottery, or maybe you've just been more fiscally responsible for the past year and you've got more in the bank than usual - either way, you'll eventually get to a point where it becomes VERY easy to rationalize away the money concerns. Thinking about money is always short-term; you have no idea what will happen in a year or two.
If on the other hand, your main reasons are health and hygiene, it forces you to think a little harder when you've been clean for a year and you find yourself saying "Man, I'm stressing about this contract, I could really use a cig right now". You can ask yourself back, "Yeah, but do I really want to go back to feeling and smelling like all the time?" That's a serious question, but if all you're worrying about is the money, that logic becomes pretty weak. You can always get more money; you can't always get more health. |

Willpower ! That's all a man really needs. Drugs and nicotine quitting products are bogus in my opinion if you have no willpower. The cold turkey approach has worked pretty well for me for the last month. The toughest part is the first three days, where you're really fiending for a smoke, but after you get over that hump, there's no better feeling then knowing you can quit smoking.
It's not easy, but trust me -- the benefits of not smoking as so clearly visible that if that doesn't provide you nuff incentive then you might as well light up, wait to get a heartattack, and have your friends starting call you a weak lil bitch.
Oh -- and don't compensate with chron (chrons great, but what's the point of smoking less cigs if it's only gonna turn you into a pothead ?)
Best of luck with Quitting ! |

im on day 6 now:toothless
one of the reasons i chose to quit was coz of my kids. well i dont have kids yet, but hopefully one day i will and i dont want them to grow up with a smoking parent. that way i wont be exposing them to an unhealthy environment. |
