Where and what should I buy, my budget is 150-200 bucks and I'm planning on buying it tomorrow.
Another question, I bought an MDG computer friday with an Intel integrated video card, can I install a new card without any issues? |
fist of all.. you need to check if your mobo(mother board) has an AGP port that supports 8x graphics apature... if it does.. (im guessing u know this) than u should consider buying the new video card.. if it doesnt.. then thats money.. well.. wasted!
if you do have an 8x agp port like i said... then you should consider buying a third party radeon 9800 se.. by powercolor... it can be softmodded to 9800pro.. so u dont have to spend the extra $$ on a pro card...
well.. that what i got.. and it still serving me rite.. gets me 40+ fps in hl2 w/ high qual settings.. :) |

| If you're installing the card in a computer you just bought, you need to check the specs on it to see if your mobo is AGP or PCI Express. It won't affect the price much, but I don't think AGP video cards will fit in a PCIx slot, so be careful. |

O.K quick question, I tried putting my Radeon 8500 (it's AGP) into the slot and it looks like it should fit but the slot is about half an inch too far away, does that mean it's a different type of AGP slot? ATI's website says the 8500 is for AGP 2X/4X systems, I just want a rough idea of what type of slot it is for when I go buy a new card.

Looks as if I have a PCI-E x16 slot :whip: :whip: :whip:
Can I get some reccomendations other than tossing my computer out the window? |

PCI Express 16 is the newest technology, so I wouldn't rush into vandalism so fast. ;)
The Sapphire Radeon X600 Pro 128MB (ATI chipset) is a decent card for about $130. You can go a step up and get the Radeon X600 XT 256MB for just slightly over $200 - I'd recommend the latter, personally.
I do not recommend getting PowerColor or Abit cards. Stick with Sapphire or genuine ATI. |

Now I just need a place in the Mississauga area to get it. |

| Canada Computers has a location in Mississauga. And there's always pricenetwork.ca to find the store with the best deal. |

Yea, be happy you have PCI-E cause it's the newest thing on the block right now
Get a BFG Geforce 6600GT from Canada Computers, it's $299, so a little bit out of your price range, but the performance the Geforces give you is amazing, compared to their price. |
