stuttering synth effect

Hi, I was wondering how people get their synths to 'stutter', or give choppy sound, during playback. The closest example I can give is the 'trans' effect on a DJM600 mixer. Thank you

Gate- ideally with something in the sidechain triggering it

Trans is short for transform- which refers to and old skool cross fader trick which gives the effect.

search for 'gate' in the production forum, there was a thread called something like "gate fx like vanguard". Some nice free vst fx recommendations in there too...

i was looking for something like that for a long time, and it was too complicated to do it with the whole track in wavelab. thanks m8!

Try ReFX Vanguard !!

You can download the demo here

Amazing synth, with a easy to use gate effect and comes with tons of trance sounds.

syncing the LFO with the filter can achieve a similar effect

yes, that's what i love to do, i use the linplug albino alot. just let one lfo control main amplitude, sync to 1/4 and here we go:)

cubase has a built in gate,

a far cry from some of the dedicated gating vst's,

but usable none the less,

not sure about fruity or logic though

Oli Larkin's "Advanced MIDI Gate" is nice if you're looking for something a little more flexible than your average gate.

DFX's "Skidder" is also a nice gating plug-in.
