The Start: I got to the Guv just past 10 pm and all the exterior lights were off, the place looked empty – I thought I had shown up the wrong day. 15 minutes later bouncers appear, outside lights turn on and I ask when the show is starting and the bouncer said between 11pm and 11:30 pm so I waited it out in my car. Got into the club around 11:15 pm.

The Openers: As usual Addy and Deko-ze were in fine form. Some nice ass-shakin’ house from Addy (Mr. “DDTT to warm-up the Guv” – Addy did the same thing last weekend). Deko-ze did a crazy mash-up of PVD and … (track name escapes me) - nonetheless it was awesome.

Blank & Jones: Set went from 1:30 am to 4:15 am. Having never seen Blank & Jones before live, but having heard many of their recorded sets I knew the night was going to be good. After experiencing that performance: Blank & Jones were beyond good – they were phenomenal. It has been a LONG time since I’ve been to a (true) trance party – B&J were EXACTLY what I had been craving. The set was pure and true trance – lots of strings/synth, big builds, sweeping melodies – no prog, no techno, no house – just perfect trance. It was a “hands in the air” performance. From the first record right to the last – I don’t think my hands were by my side for more than 30 seconds, my hands are still asleep from lack of circulation and shoulders are pooched. I said that this might be the trance set of the year in Toronto – and unless Blank & Jones come back, it won’t be topped. I even got my Blank & Jones records signed – whoot!

Blank & Jones @ Guv on Feb 8 was the best (true/pure) trance set I have ever witnessed. Thank you Blank & Jones!

The Guv: The infamous sardine can was anything but. Take a typical packed Saturday @ Guv, divide it by 3, the club wasn’t anything like it usually is; lots of room to move, lots of room to dance. The New Year festivities had everybody on their best behavior (or so it seemed to me) – the sketch factor was significantly less than a usual Saturday night @ Guv. Best experience ever in this nightclub.

The Friends: TOTA in full effect tonight. Perfect trance + perfect friends = :). Great to see everybody – thanks for being a part of this great night. Fantastic to share it with you.

The Thanks: Goldfinger & May for making this possible.

The People That Didn’t Make It Out: If you want to hear the best trance (and only trance) set of your life - pray that Blank & Jones come back (and not in another 4 years like this time).

wow, that was crazy. best study break ever.
got to the club at about 12:30 and deko-ze was just getting up on the decks, spun a wicked one hour set to set the mood up so nicely for blank and jones, some sweet DDTT in his set.

tons of rooms to dance and such a positive vibe. even though the club was mostly asian the sketch factor was to a minimum tonight. so different from a regular spin saturday which made partying so sweet.

blank and jones hit the stage just after 1:30am and wow!! from the begining these dudes were just dropping killer track after killer track. purely epic and uplifting trance. the energy that these two had behind the decks was amazing, great presense and pumping up the crowd at all times.

songs i remember at the moment:

thrillseekers - synaesthesia 2004(ferry corsten remix)
Randy Katana - In Silence (Txitxarro Mix)
under world - born slippery
tiesto - adagio for strings
Eric Prydz - Call On Me
blank and jones - desire TUNE!!
cher - believe???(????)

there were tons more songs that i cant recall at the moment, more to come.
no regrets YET for going out.

loved the set up in the guv with the couches all over the show, too bad i was too busy dancing to chill on them.

some stupid bouncer stole my 20 dollars, i dropped it on the floor and he picked it up and denied the whole thing, in wanker. oh well maybe he needs it more than i do (   )

pics to come soon.

now its time to finish off my assignment thats due in 5 hrs....

got to the club around 10:30pm with my grandpa and grandma ..

actually no ..

got to the club around 11pm with drgoodvibe only to find out earlier from RJ that the place wouldn't be openning till around 11:30pm. anyhow myself and a couple of TOTAs headed in after having worked out some 'issues' with the entry into a virtually empty yet styling Guv..

the setup of the club looked fantastic. red drapery and other Chinese/Asian ornamentals hung from the ceiling and the walls and couches were positioned around the corners of the room. all the other areas were closed off ie. stage and entrance to the drink (closed). the area towards the Orange room entrance was converted into a bar/lounge area with several more couches. best of all the DJ booth was actually on the floor of the club! it was positioned to face directly opposite of the main entrance doorway. the placement allowed all the DJs to gain maximum crowd interaction for the nite..

i honestly had no expections going down 2nite and honestly wondered how the turnout would be for a party happening midweek in the middle of winter. the crowd was undoubtedly asian, but wasn't as bad as some might come to expect. sure the sketchiness was there like any other Spin Sat nite, but the TOTA massif always more than makes up for that. anyhow, Addy openned the nite up with some sickass banging beats. i LOVED the fact that there was so much room to dance in the club. it almost felt like being in an entirely new venue. the place started to fill slowly throughout the nite, and by the time Dekoze came on which was after Addy, there was a good sized crowd yet still plenty of space to dance. man i had so much fun boogying with all that space.. i don't think i've experienced that at the Guv since i caught Tiesto play there for the first time back in 2000.. it was an amazing feeling some thing i wish we could experience on a regular basis again. anyhow, Dekoze openned with Way Out West - Killa which got the crowd goin early in anticipation for Blank & Jones.

Blank & Jones finally came out and dropped an absolutely exquisitely killer set. oh man i have not heard trance that sweet since 1999/2000.. a nice flashback of parties of heathen old. we were also treated to a lion dance & martial arts spectacle on the stage by Pillar which was quite entertaining (kinda reminded me of Tiesto in Concert). their [Blank & Jones] set was nothing less than banging, epic, and full on TRANCE. probably by far one of the purest trance sets in a long ass time. it wasn't just trance, but sweet booty ass German trance. the epic euphoria was just unreal.. there are still some of us rushing the nite away as i type this review after that onslaught of lengendary uplifting trance in all its shining glory..

by the time Goldfinger came out after B&J, those of us who had to work tommorow had to bail on out..

all in all a very enlightening evening.. :D

shout outs to all the TOTAs i saw in tha house ..

drgoodvibe - thanks for the ride down
