What in God's name is a restaurant critic (monsieur haute-cusine) doing theorizing about the temple of drity ass shakin' house?

Unfortunately most of the Post readers don't have the faculties to consider that (Globe readers on the other hand would).

Not that a Globe reader would actually pick up the National Post.
Post readers are still wondering why there isn't a page 3 girl...

Funny how everyone trashes anything right wing as being dumb.

Doesn't mean he's a good journalist.

I think that might have been his point ;)

No wonder he got a staff job. Not much risk in hiring a piss-poor, manipulating journalist and assiging him to get fat on creme-brule.

Again, you putting words into other peoples mouths. "The guy" never even mentioned that he wanted alcohol instead of water, he simply claimed that water was his only option, and it "wasnt for him". And again, putting words into my mouth - i dont think he is satan, just a horrible writer.

Like i said in my previous statement, he probebly just assumed that it was a friendly conversation and was off the record. Obviously this wasnt the case.

Water is one of the only options to drink at BOA and I think that the implication that the no alcohol idea wasn't as great as some might want to think that it is is clearly in the article. HE is implying that he would want to have some more drinking options such as alcohol. Clearly water is the main drinking option at BOA and there is no alcohol which is mentioned as well.

When you are doing an interview with a writer who is doing a story on you and you club then I would think that you probably shouldn't assume anything because you aren't having a conversation with your buddy from elementary school. You are having an interview with a guy who is doing his job and doing a story on you and your club so save the off the record comments with your buddies from child hood because saying that he probably assumed it was a friendly conversation is first off a hypathetical point and secondly wouldn't be a smart thing to do.

I haven't talked to Rony, but Richler is a food/restaurant critic I believe.

Richler describes Rony's other business ventures in the article, including the original Boa he opened in Yorkville years ago.

It wasn't an interview by the sounds of it, more like a coversation in passing regarding his businesses, which include some restaurants, and Boa-redux. There is no back and forth quoting/answering format. Not to mention his directions/description of the club are about 1yr out of date. (what was the point of the side entrance and garbage comments, honestly?)

It seemed to me it was a discussion on the business model of clubs vs restaurants than it was a writeup of the club itself.

Regardless, it was a barely sensical ramble that really lacked direction and structure, much less content.

One should know that any comments made with a writer for a national paper who is doing an article on clubs and restaurants or whatever is right in front of you could end up in print. If you represent a club and the article is going to invovle clubs then surely one would have to know that something that is said might just pop up in the article and hence one should be fully aware that what they say might and most likely will appear in the article which is being worked on.One should simply say things which they feel comfortable with having appear in the article just in case they do pop up in the article by suprise.

That is all well and good, if you are aware that there is an article in the making.

Again, I don't know the context that their conversation took place in, but it's Rony's right to say what he wants, to whom he wants.

I don't see him complaining, so it's safe to assume he's comfortable with what he's said, and I don't blame him. Nothing he said was inflammatory, or groundbreaking.

However the article just seems frivilous, and without a point or merit. It's just a shame Richler didn't do something with some content with his piece, as opposed to a quirky blurb with all of two quotes and a small commentary.
