Hey NYTAs!! I'm a fellow TA, or might I say LATA. I will be traveling to New York in the summer for six weeks. I'll be staying at the dorms in Columbia Medical School (attending a summer medical program). I will be arriving in New York June 11 and departing back to San Diego around July 22. The program coordinators said that it was located in mainstream New York city. Is this correct? Also, I wanted to know if anyone knows of any events going on during that time period. Thanks for all your guys help!!

if you want to know events, check back in two to three months... otherwise, welcome and please enjoy your stay.

if you're going to be near CUMC at columbia-presbyterian on 168th st. then you're a bit aways from the 'mix' of downtown lol.

the good news: the A train makes express stops from 168th to downtown areas so you'll be in the 'mix' of things quickly.

the bad news: not-so-good things might happen to you on 168th while you're waiting for the A.

They do have good weed spots up there, but then again, you need to look and act the part of a true nyc'er inorder to not be figured out by those people. Just hold your own and your cool and just proceed with your business.

In terms of July events, for sure we all know that TFST will have our ANNUAL TFST July 4th BBQ which is clearly not to be missed, keg 5ft grills and all.

And just ANOTHER note on this, PLEASE DO NOT ROLL THE KEG TO THE TENT, I DO NOT LIKE DRINKING FOAM ALL NIGHT LONG!

FYI, this party starts at noon and goes until the cops come and shut us down. Fireworks usually happen close to us as well, so there ain't nothing like BEER, BBQ, TRANCE, and FIREWORKS. I think we are just missing girls participating in Wet T-Shirt Contest...lols

Since you're from SmelLA, you're probably familiar with South Central and the area around the USC campus. Well.... up on 168th st will be like staying there. So come strapped! 9mm and as the man said a vest too. Just hope they don't shoot the face.

Actually, I think the danger in LA is worse than NYC having been in both.

Anyway, where you're at, you'll be cruising on the subway for awhile to get to any clubs.
