i just put the newer stuff in the front and everyimte i get somethin new, it goes in the front. thus the first things i bought is in back. i only have about 60 but i remember where everyone is. i suppose one i start getting more, i'll get a better system...

usually by tracks with a similar sound or elements. just so when i'm playing live i know where to look for tracks that sound or feel a certain way. has always worked for me.

^^ exactly the same here. At this time, my crate's got some high energy > harder stuff > acidy stuff > melodic stuff.

i have pretty much all trance at the moment so i just sort by artist in no particular order... all my tiesto is at the front lol
idoru
Alphabetically, starting with artist name then track name.

Basically it works differently for everyone. I mean, some people do it by label, by alphabetical order, by energy... but all in all what matters is the way that's best for you.

Seriously... try all these suggestions out. Even if someone tells you to do it by BPM... try it. Then you'll find what's easiest for you.

It's difficult, but you've got to get used to YOUR style of sorting out your music.

By BPM, sometimes Keys... No Doubt! ;)

Cheers!

i have been spinning for a year and 9 months. i have gone through the following stages...

1- only had about 10 records to start so who cared how they were organized. when i travelled with them they would go in a free seafoam green dickies record bag with no protection.

2- once i hit 50 records i put them in a crate - dont all dj's use milk crates? lol oh, and i started alphabetizing by producer

3- too many records for one crate so i bought a cabinet to hang on the wall. alphabetized again...took me about 3 hours since i was well over 100 records.

4- got sick of reaching up to the cabinet and my collection is up to over 250. put the records i hate in the cabinet on the wall. put progressive/housey records back in that milk crate and my trancier records on top of a trunk i had from college. nothing is alphabetized anymore. the stuff i play most is in the front, less in the back.

5- started organizing according to key. gave up.

6- see 4

Thanks for all the ideas. I will try some of them out. I guess its just about what you become comfortable with. Thanks again! Rock on!

Prog/Melodic and Epic/Hard. Alpabetical order by artist's last name/nickname within each of the two.

Currently... all over the place. but I basically have it memorized where I put it the last time I spun. plus. I go by flow of the set for picking my next tune. so I try not to arrange them by label artist etc.. i just start going through at random and when I see something that will go with the set I drop it. Even if I DO have a record in mind, I tend to end up changing it for a BETTER song that carries the flow better, when looking for it.

Just really use to how my stuff is setup
