For those of you who are into progressive production I have a few questions.

Other than needing a sequencer and something cool to dj with (ableton and cdjs and decks) what else do I need to get started? vsti? etc... I did a search but I really wanna know what I need beond the sequencer.

cheers, thanks for your time...

Depends what sequencer your using

if its just one where you can only sequence eg Adobe Audition

then you need another program like Fruity Loops or Reason
TranceReality
VSTi's - Drum samples/Good sample CD and your imagination !!

And thats about all you need to start making music.

I guess I should have expanded more. I plan on diving into cubase. I got cubase, ordered some books, and videos. Everything will be arriving soon. Other than that, I am lost. I know it is better to get FL studio for drums, at least that is what I read alot. So I got the demo for that, well anyway, I plan on studing hard. Was going to take a class at Berley online but there isn't one with cubase that i want. Only sonar, etc..

well thanks for your help ..

cheers...

Why do you want to start with Cubase?

+1, Cubase is pretty hard for a start...

Try the demos of some sequencers: FL, Reason, etc.
You can to do progressive without vsti or even Cubase, just explore the sequencer and create music as you love to hear ! ;)

I disagree, Cubase isn't difficult to use, just difficult to master - I'd recommend anyone to start with it.

Agree
seriously what is soo hard about cubase? Seems like people are afraid of it.

To answer your question.
What do you have so far? soundcard anykind of headphones or speakers?
You can deal without a midikeyboard, just draw the notes.
Check out the VSTi thread for some good ones. There are plenty of free ones outthere that can get you started.
+samples for the kicks and whatnot.

What i got so far in hardware is:

pent 4 3.0ghz
1 gig ram
1 seagte 120gig
1 western dig 160gig
sound blaster audiogy platnum pro (i know alot of ppl hate it but i got a good deal)
got my dj phones (pioneer)
got some wharfedale speakers and my dvd speaker set up

got cubase coming in soon maybe a day or two.

Other than that I feel as though I am entering a world where I haven't the idea where to start. I have been reading a lot, but, well, i think you all get the picture.

I feel like a nerd who just walked down his first red light district...

cheers...
