P Diddy & EDM scene ??

I posted this on the NYC thread but I wanted to get a globle prespective on this topic.

Did anyone read that article from a Uk dj magazine regarding P. diddy getting down and into the EDM scene. I believe it was an interview with p diddy and how he plans to support Erick morillo and start producing EDM music.

As up and coming local producer, I respect p. diddy as business man and as a producer. But then again I dont like the fact that hes trying to exploit another music genre to gain riches. Also I dont think he sees EDM as we TAs normally would but sees it as a product or another way to capitalize. EDM to me has always been a passion and my escape from the norm (lack or a better word). At this point Im neutral with P. Diddy being the game. For the following reasons:

Money (help local US producers get signed)
Many big lables will jump on the bandwagon or pay more attention
May help expand EDM
Hes hasnt produced anything yet so I cant make an accurate judgement

SO.....What do TAs think???

P. Diddy and EDM

GOOD :D or BAD :nervous:

i doubt p diddy is trying to exploit the EDM scene for money. i mean really...the dude has plenty of money already...

i think he probably has a genuine interest in the music. the only problem i would have is if the tracks sucked. i personally didn't like Let's Get Ill...but if he started to make really awesome songs...i'd listen to them...

Read the article, yeah...

I think it will be good in that he will bring EDM to more people as they will be intrigued into what he is doing. As long as he keeps hanging around with talented DJs like Morillo and Deep Dish, it's all fair game.

On the other hand, if he's just jumping into the wagon of EDM and its growing popularity, this won't be good. To be fair, we need to listen to this album he's been producing for some time to see what he will offer to the scene.

so whats the deal with this whole P. Diddy thing... did he produce the whole song? or just say "Lets get up and lets get ill, your dreams have been fulfilled"?

and i agree with you 'Floorfiller'... having a genuine interest in EDM is part of it... but I think money still plays a big role in his decision.

As far as "Let's Get Ill" goes... the song aint that amazing, but it's not that bad either. But apparently there is a Deep Dish remix of it... I'd be interested in hearing that.

Good i say good to see someone totally diverse from edm start producing it, if his songs are crap and cheesey i wont listen to them but im sure they'll hit the charts
