Many people associate the sounds of the music with colours and pictures in their minds and space seems to be one of the most common. There are certain tracks which I feel have a kind of "spacey" feel but just why it sounds spacey I could never explain.

On the inlay of Aqualite's album "Waterworld", it describes itself as "A travel through cosmic space and rhythmic waves...".

flying through space...and listening to trance....that would be sweet!

I love the music genre called "Space". Best known artists in this genre are Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre. This type of electronic music has been around since the early 1970s, waaaaaaaaaaaay before trance, but trance was in some form inspired by it.

check out John Serrie, most of his albums are made for looking at stars and space. He makes songs for planetariums all the time

Space is limitless, trance promotes the same feelings.

Trance and space having a lineage? Naw....

Thing you have to remember is a lot of early synths, especially pad effects, were prominently used in sci-fi shows because of their other-wordly sounds. So, when techno began using such sounds to create trancey techno (later known as just trance), the immediate association to the sounds was with space.

I'm still trying to figure out how trance became associated with airports in later years, though.:conf:
