Numark Battle Pak: Situation
View this Thread in Original format

Okay, here's the situation:

Some guy is offering to sell a used pair of the Numark "Battle Pak"

He purchased them in September, which is about 6 months ago.
I've used the decks, and they're not bad...

there is just a couple problems:
- when I try to rewind a track for a long duration of the song, the platter completely stops moving.
- also if i put too much pressure on the record (by too much i mean a considerable amount) the platter stops moving. Mind you if I put pressure on it to cue a track, it doesnt stop.

With the decks I'm able to mix some-what comfortably, but I usually cue the track by holding the edge of the record, just so there is no risk of slowing down the platter by putting to much pressure on it.

Another factor is that this guy uses the decks for turntablism, so he mainly does scratching and cutting with it. But at the same time, he doesn't practice very much.

Price
He bought it for $570 (CND) and he's selling it for $300 (CND)

Worth it? or not? Please state your reasons for you choice as well

Thanks a lot.

i wouldn't give him more than $100cdn. Equipment like that setup doesn't have a high resale value, or is intended to do nothing more than suck people into buying dj-in-a-box crap. For the amount he wants, you may be able to find a used 1200, and slowly start to build your setup there. I seen used 1200MK2s here in the USA go for around $200-$250USD ($247.80CAD-$309.60CAD) and i honestly think waiting will reward you in the long run...

It's not worth it. Save up and buy some used technics or numark's and a pioneer djm 707 with it's new low price of $300 ;)

i think i have that same set. it cost me from pssl about 400 dollars and they threw in some discounted stuff, so i wouldnt go any higher than 150-200 especially for 6 month old equipment.

Ok first off... Pack it in with the flame war on which TT the original poster should get. He didn't ask that, and if he wanted a pointless thread that polutes the forum then there are plenty to choose from.

Secondly, don't buy the battle pack. Chances are that the seller either has been so affected by his bad experience with crap decks or alternatively he has realised that there are much better decks out there and is going for an upgrade. Also realising that they have made a bad mistake he/she is trying to get the most they can out of a bad situation.
My answer is no, don't buy them. There are better alternatives out there that you should be looking at. The above mentioned decks are all good in their own way but the main point is that YOU decide which one is best for you.

Try DJing on someone elses decks first to make sure it's really for you as it will cost you a lot of money and let's face it, the decks and mixer are just the start.
If you decide that it's definately for you then I would say go with quality and do some research on the industry and what is being used there. Quality tends to endure.

dont do it...

alot of ppl(like me) make the mistake of buying cheap gear at first thinking they can just upgrade as soon as they feel theyre ready... it just doesnt happen

we call it VAS (Vinyl Addiction Syndrome) and many of us are severely infected... as soon as you buy a pair of decks theyre useless to you if you have no records to spin... sooo, you go out an buy a couple, you get good at matching them then as soon as you have the money you want more... before you know it youve spent the last few months of saving on vinyl:whip:

trying to save money when you know you can go out and pick up some good tunes is a biatch...

not only that, sooner or later a needle is gonna break on you and you'll need a replacement...

if you already have 300 saved that youd spen on those decks, wait and keep saving, buy some real equipment as you'll be much happier, if you dont like it you can always sell it at a considerable profit...

if you buy those numarks and dont like them you wont get much trying to sell them... probably around 200 at most

i bought a dj-in-a-box POS and yea its nice cus it serves its purpose, but once you get good on them there isnt much room for improvement -

as a Rule of Thumb for DJ gear you get what you pay for and nothing good is cheap - unless you find a good deal somewhere but that takes some digging

straight up - its expensive, its hard, and it will take time, so skip the crap and get something worth your time and money

What an excellent statement.

And of course, an excellent post from Nem too.

With that being said. I've got a TTX and a TT500 I'll sell to you for $275. In perfect working order.

I'm selling them because I want Tech's. Tech's are the industry standard, and that's just a fact. If (hopefully) I ever get a chance to play out, I'm guessing it will be on Tech's. So I'm going to prepare myself as best I can.

My bit of advice, and this post is a perfect example of that: Educate yourself to the extent of exhaustion before you make your first purchase. If you think it's expensive to start off, just wait until you get the inkling to upgrade your equipment. (Like me :( )
