Does anybody here know of a VST for smooth distortion?

if anyone here is familiar with "Sonic Animation - Release" you'll know what i'm talking about.

i already know how to partially get the tight sound but as for the actual distorion.. thats something i'm gonna need help with.

I know you asked for a VST, but you can get some pretty decent results with reason's scream 4

(its just that i'm very familiar with fruityloops)

CamelPhatFreehere

Compressor/distortion combo. Havn't tried it though but its free...

and this might work too. Does tube style harmonic distortion which might be what your after if your trying to get a smooth sound.

theres no reason to use any reason reason is crap. check out antres tube or psp vintage warmer theres plenty of vsti effects just search kvr or something

Derivative
distortion plugins (all free):

sc_overdrive - very cold and static type distortion.

greasetube (stereo) - simulated tube amp distortion - has a creamy kind of texture thats very warm. works best in moderate to little amounts since at full whack is makes any synth sound like its farting.

tridirt - probably the most controllable distortion here. you can control the saturation curve of the distortion to dampen or sharpen it. you can also adjust the amount of distortion in bass, mid and treble frequencies to give it a more specific bite. you can also overdrive it to pain threshold levels if you like doing that sort of thing on the side.
