Potential Legal Issues?

I'm currently developing a project whereby legal issues may come in to play, therefore I'm looking for your opinions regarding such.

Without going in to excessive detail (or advertising), the project is based upon individuals and music labels paying the company a small fee for their tracks to be distributed via our web site, which will offer those tracks for free to visitors.

Now, I'm sure that, to be safe, I need to draw up a contract whereby the individual/label states that the music that they are wishing to distribute is rightfully theirs and that they wish to have that music distributed for free via the web site, ensuring that I have my back covered if the music turns out to be copyrighted to someone else, or they dispute the 'free download' terms.

Do you feel that there are other potential legal issues involved with the project?

i cant imagine that many artists would be happy with that it would be alot safer just to sell for every download someone does ur covering ur own back then.

There's so many sites like that around though, that's why we're trying to be a little different.

We're hoping to ensure that up-and-coming talent have a medium to promote their music, something they may not have had in the past.

i dont think that TA is the best place to look for info on this. you might want to consult an actual lawyer.

i think you should consult a intellectual property attorney...they would be able to tell you more fully what the risks of such a venture might be...plus, if you're doing any kind of legal document...make sure a real lawyer draws it up. i know we're all smart, but its safer...you'll thank yourself if you ever have a problem ;)
