Actually, Harriri was the most moderate about the Syrian exit from Lebanon... he wasn't as extreme as others in the opposition...
so its really weir. |

What malek is said is true, they could have killed Walid Jumblatt, a Druze leader of the opposition who has held that position for quite a while.
Now about who did it, the first thing i'd like to say is that as a lebanese i'm a little angered at the fact that people not of lebanese descent dismiss the fact that it was Syria. I would bet my bottom dollar on the fact that it was Syria. You non-lebanese don't know what the syrians did to lebanon from 1975-1990. they killed a president, a president-elect, a few prime ministers and several parliamentarians, including Walid Jumblatt's father who was an outspoken critic of Syria.
The Mossad and the CIA can easily be blamed because it would seem that both the US and Israel would have something to possibly gain from this. Even I, no fan of either the US or Israel, do not believe it was either one of them. this entire affair reeks of syrian intelligence. ******s. |

good job totally misunderstanding what i was saying. all i meant was that to know the true intricacies of the Lebanese problems, it would be preferable to have some experience in the country. |

No I think I understood what you were saying as your last post proves as well...just cos you live there does not make you an expert on the matter does it? Nor does it mean other people's opinions are any less valid than yours (in fact they may be more valid when you take possible bias into account)
Do you still live in Lebanon btw? |

I'm not going to get into a -flinging contest about my credentials in the matter.
and no I've actually never lived in lebanon althogh my extended family is still there and i visit often. |

No actually what makes me an expert on it is that it has been my passion for many years now. we get LBC and al-jazeera on satellite tv and my family is always up-to-date on lebanese politics. my immediate family lived in beirut throughout the war years and moved only 4 years before it ended, giving them a first-hand experience and welath of knowledge on lebanese history and politics. they passed that information down to me.
now leave me alone, you're honestly really annoying. |

Well, I would tend to agree with that. Unlike the US and Israel (whose politics are always in the news for whatever reason) countries like Lebanon only make the limelight every couple of years (when was the last time you heard of Lebanese politics before this assasination?). There are a lot of intricacies of a country you wouldn't get unless you are exposed to its media or have some other connection (family, lots of friends etc.). |

Well I suppose it depends on what you do and where you get your information from. Fair enuf if somebody knows nothing about Lebanon then writes a load of rubbish about it then you may want to criticise them. But you cannot assume everyone who does not live in Lebanon knows nothing about it cos it aint true! |
