Got a coworker heading to NYC for the day on Wed. to check out the exhibit in Central Park, and he has nowhere to stay. Is there such a thing as a non-scuzzy hostel that would run in the $50-100 range?

there's a couple nice affordable ones there.

I was actually thinkin the same thing. I will be up there on the 18th for AvB but dont wanna have to pay as much as I did when I was up there last (NYE). It was 2 beds for 500 the night. Was in crazy even though there was 5 of us splitting the cost.

I don't think my friend will want to make some huge trek uptown to Harlem to find a hostel... I think he'd rather spend the night in the airport, at that rate.
Is there not any vacant student housing rooms they use for cheap overnight stays somewhere, like we have in Toronto?

If your coworker wants to stay within that range, may as well just use hotwire and stay at an airport hotel

Try the YMCA in Greenpoint. They have deluxe rooms (meaning a tv) for around $50 a night, and much less if you commit to a week. You probably need to reserve the room in advance though.

EDIT: There's also people on craigslist.org who advertise rooms on a day-by-day basis.

don't stay at the airport. that's way too far away from the city and no fast mass transit out there. Stay in harlem. It's not as far north as you think. South Harlem borders the park afterall...
