production question

hello all. ive been trying unsuccessfully for awhile now to make a "wind" noise to create a buildup effect like snare drums do. i came close once by playing around with the waveform on a synth and then turning the filters all the way up but in the end i had no "control" over the effect. so im wondering, how does one make that "whooshing wind" effect? are there certain machines or software programs that specialize in this noise, or am i just way off track? please help...

If you're using reason you can easily make one with the subtractor. You need to use delay, reverb, and eq to get it sounding perfect, though.

I didn't try but I think you should use "white noise" with a very low cutoff and alot of EQ...

But i'm not sure.
